Hello OzBargain family!
Yesterday I took a DiDi (rideshare) to a place 35km away for work (~$60). As I was in a rush I accidently left my house keys in the vehicle.
When I got home that evening, I couldn't find my keys and called the driver. The driver confirmed that he is in possession of my keys. He told me he was driving at the time and would text me his address when he got home. After an hour passed I called him again and he said he was 2 minutes away from his home. After waiting a further 30 minutes patiently, I called him and the number wouldn't go through.
Whilst it is distressing, I do believe there may be a few possible situations why I couldn't call through:
a. No network coverage (but he says he lives in the airport so I'm suspecting unlikely)
b. Phone is off
c. DiDi use a proxy number to get through to his phone without revealing his actual number
I have contacted DiDi by support email. I am quite aware they will tell me it's out of their hands (saw a disclaimer on their website/messages when lodging lost items) and that it is between me and the driver to sort out.
I have called multiple times to no avail, I have texted him via messages and also via phone stating I would be happy to remunerate him accordingly in return of my keys.
Has any of the OzBargain community had similar situations and if so, how did they go about it? Any recommendations?
Thanks,
J
edit:
DiDi anonymised the numbers which expired so therefore the driver and I were unable to communicate. This has now been rectified and keys returned!
Once I left about $4k of very resalable gear in an Uber (in bags) got it back with a $20 tip. 5 star.
They had a lost item service which hooked me up with the driver and I pre commit money to return the bags.
