Rodents under Dishwasher- How to Kill

Woke up in the middle of the night to hear weird scratching sounds from the dishwasher area. Stopped when I got near so couldn't be sure on what it was.

Then today I found mouse droppings under the kitchen sink area. My dog was sleeping 5 m away and didn't do anything …

Any ideas how to clear these buggers out? Don't want dog to get poisoned( he tries to eat everything), don't want a mouse nest during colder months (last time I had to manually kill 6 pinkies I found in a nest).

Traps and plug/seal holes where they could get into the house (so new ones can't get it).

    Unleash the Python?

I think cats are better and probably easier to obtain than a python.

      • Then what will OP do with his dog

        • You're worried the dog won't get along with the cat?

        • Fire the doggo for being a bludger.

You can buy pet proof bait stations like this:

    • Doesn't help when mice stagger out and dog eats them

Neighbours poisoned rats are always coming over here to die

At least need a holding one like this

A good suggestion especially when combined with the suggestion by mapax below.

    • That’s a brodifacoum bait and even though it’s unlikely there is a risk of secondary poisoning if doggo eats baited mice. OP would be better with a difenacoum based bait which is less toxic to dogs.

      • A good suggestion. Opt for one with a different type of bait.

It's a demarcation agreement between cats and dogs.

Pull out dishwasher, plug hole(s), put dishwasher back. What's difficult about doing this?

  • +2

    Plug holes
with steel wool and secure with whatever you want - wood, tape, glue, plasterboard

    Set traps
For dog safety + not reliving pinky trauma get some release type traps and let them go outside and if possible far away from house
    I like this kind https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2-4x-Mouse-Trap-Cage-Catch-Captu…
    Relatives like this kind https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/SALE-Multi-Live-Catch-Mouse-Huma…

    Hire Security
Go to RSPCA and get cat who will tolerate dog. Find the most feral one you can. Farm cats are good mousers. Smell alone will help.

    pull the dishwasher out immediately.
i went away for couple of weeks and mice had nested on top of dishwasher, pissed everywhere. Had it outside for a month using all sorts of chemicals to get rid if smell.
Had to throw out the insulation.

of course, you will still need to get rid of the mice problem as others suggest

  • Bikies, of course

    • This works very well. The only downside is it only kills one rodent at a time. Appropriate early on if numbers are still small.

Move the furniture into different locations, mice have exceptional spatial awareness and if objects are relocated they will become disorientated. Move the dishwasher and you can then hit them with a fry-pan easily.

    • Hi ya Tom.
