Samsung Galaxy S II for $539 from Dodo? Any experience with DODO?

The DODO website have the S2 listed for $539, which is the cheapest I've seen locally. I tried calling up to find out about warranty, and got some useless person on the end of the line who just read out the standard consumer information about returns but was unable to tell me how long the warranty was for! In the end, she said 14 days from DODO then manufactures warranty of 1 year.

I thought its supposed to be 2 years? Or am I wrong? Does this imply its a grey import?

Anyone had any experience with buying DODO mobiles recently?

  • I guess if you are just buying the out-right phone it does not really matter how good their mobile service is? By the way is their Galaxy S II Australian stock or grey imports? $539 + $9.90 shipping would be a good price for Aussie stock but might not be for grey imports.

  • Exactly, I'm trying to suss out if its grey or not? How do you find that out?

    • No idea. I just sent a question via their online form. I'll see what they say.

  • Do you know if the Aus warranty is supposed to be 2 years?

    • S2 with Vodaphone come with 2 years warranty.

      • S2 with Vodaphone come with 2 years warranty.

That doesn't necessarily mean much in general. Several months back Voda announced they were extending all warranties to 2 years.

Don't expect much in the way of customer service from Dodo. That way you cannot be disappointed.

      • This is one year with Samsung and the final year with Vodafone. So it can only be repaired at vodafone service centres.

    • I believe it is only 1 year mate

  • I just want to buy it cheap, and know that Samsung Aus will cover it? I think $50 or so for an extra year and local warranty is worth it, but looking for cheapest Aus stock, not grey

  • The 14 day seems correct, this is known as an ELF period whereby the retailer has to swap the handset to a new one if any manufacturer's faults arise. After this period, it is fixed under warranty.

Grey imports mention their possible incompatability with Next G & also GST free.

    Dodo's delivery conditions:
"Delivery: Handsets purchased will be delivered to you. Please set out a delivery address in Australia. Dodo will not deliver handsets to a post box or post restante address and therefore you need to set out a street address to which the mobile phone can be delivered. Delivery of handsets will take 3 to 7 business days from the date the handset is ordered. "
especially the 5-7 days makes me think it is stock held in Australia, as this would be an exceptionally fast service from OS.

Having said that, they may still be grey imports held in Australia but invoiced by an OS affiliate to circumvent the GST.

    Warranty is 12 months.

    • How do you work out if Samsung will honour the warranty?

I hear all sorts of problems of people trying to get general warranty support from Samsung in general in whirlpool with claims of "water damage" when there is none etc etc.
Does being a grey import make the warranty and more difficult than normal?
