Anyone Using Their Complimentary Lounge Passes, and Not Travelling?

I now have 2 Priority pass entries with my Citi card, 2 more I haven't redeemed yet with my Westies black, 2 more with the HSBC premier card and 3 QFF lounge passes and 2 Virgin passes. Partner and friends have similar.

But we have no plans to travel any time soon.

Guess I could sell the QFF passes, but what about the Priority Passes?

Local airport has a Rex lounge that isn't airside. We are going to lose the passes anyway, so might as well drop in after work and have a couple of get togethers fully catered by Priority Pass?. Pretty sure they don't check for a boarding pass like QFF?

Also, when you currently hold Priority Pass membership for life (thanks Citi) and get the two freebies again with other cards. What do you do?
Make up never ending new accounts, or can you somehow simply add 2 more to your current account?

Cheers

When I head into the local priority pass lounge, they ask for flight tickets

    • +1

Yes, you can't get into the lounger without a ticket.

      • Ours (Adelaide) is a Rex lounge. I read that they send you a pin code to access the lounge (ie. no person at the door)..

        Can anyone confirm?

        • From the Rex website

Membership provides access to the Rex Lounges in Sydney, Adelaide and Melbourne on the day of members’ departure or arrival on Rex flights.
Casual Lounge Access is available to Rex passengers with a valid boarding pass for a fee of $33 (incl. GST)

But from memory any Priority pass redemption requires a valid boarding pass

I'd believe it's a one time pin/fingerprint recognition system and they'd check your details against the manifests for that day. Although travelling to the airport and paying for parking to sit in Rex's lounge isn't something i'd rate highly on my to do list.

          • @Drakesy:

But from memory any Priority pass redemption requires a valid boarding pass

According to their conditions of use:-

Admittance to a Lounge or Merchant is strictly conditional upon Customers possessing (i) a valid Means of Access, (ii) a valid boarding pass and (iii) any additional identification that the Lounge or Merchant may require from Customers and their guests, which may include passport, national identity card or driving license.

Whether they check the BP is another matter. It isn't a mandatory step in the redemption process.

        • I used the lounge recently. There was someone at the counter who let me in. They asked if I was flying that day but didn't ask to see boarding pass.

          • @76F: and you said you were indeed flying ? omg….

          • @76F: Cheers. I guess the lounge really don't care what you are doing. They would want as many customers as they could. If they have asked the question, then they have satisfied their contract obligations.

Many people in the lounge? Decent enough to have a quiet beer?

            • @tunzafun001: I was indeed flying so no issues there. There was no one else. Alcohol fridge opens at 3pm. Not much food besides snacks and sandwiches.

I was mainly curious about the process and what free food and drinks were on offer.

Good luck getting into any airline lounge without a boarding pass. It's possible with other (non-lounge) venues but would be a gamble.

I've only used PP when travelling. On some occasions boarding passes have been checked, on others they haven't. Sometimes the same venue has checked on one occasion but not on others.

book a cheap return flight on qantas using qff thats leave at 9pm or so… go to lounge at 10am or whenever the booze starts and get steamed…

if you miss the flight due to intoxication happy days, if not stay the night in your destination, then repeat the next day.

my mate and I did this from bne to mt isa. (lounge only worked one way out but you could pull off a syd to mel or so)

What is the benefit of complimentary lounge if we are not travelling? Is it like free food, free internet, free sofa?

    • and shower!

      • +1

Oh… so like a house? lol.

So pay to travel all the way there to get the same amenities as your house but you don't need to pay for the 50 cents of coke you will drink and the few biscuits available.

        • And beer…and wine…and scotch..
A few bevs and snacks with friends. No need to clean your house before or after. Perfect. People pay $thousands to have a birthday with a bar tab. Just thinking outside the box .

      • Temporarily closed due to COVID!

I had PP unlimited for a year (pre-covid) and used the two available SYD domestic airside cafes extensively (Movida & Bistro 2020). The cafes always ask to show boarding pass but in most cases, it's a quick cursory 2-second glance especially if your boarding pass is on your mobile. I'd say in 80% of the cases, you could have used any old boarding pass to get away with it. If you're feeling kinda dodgy, you can photoshop or HTML edit your boarding pass with current date and some random flight. Point is, the cafes will not scan your pass, unless this has changed recently. You can't get away with this in the proper lounges as they'll always scan.

    • No cafes here unfortunately, only the Rex lounge.

I've read the t&c's on some lounge/ cafes and some are happy for you to attend when simply picking / dropping people off.

For a boarding pass, just print one off using these little gems..

      • Lol, funny site, very retro chic. Don't think the boarding pass will be fooling anyone!

You'd be surprised. The human brain only processes 1% (or something like that) of what we see. The rest it back fills from repetitive memory. Classic example, on our last cruise there was a shuttle bus service that charged $35 per person per day. I notice each person in line held a small white paper ticket. I cut up 2 pieces of paper the same size. Lined up. The woman checked our blank pieces of paper everyday, never got denied. Her brain would simply fill in the rest. A well timed distraction helps, ie "do you have the time", "i like your watch". In this example, I recon they would look for a boarding pass shape and a date, the rest would be background noise. Got to love Science!

          • @tunzafun001: I would expect if they don't really care then they simply won't check for a BP at all, which has been the majority of my last few non-lounge experiences.

If they do care enough to want to see a BP, then I'd wager that a recent pass with wrong date is much more likely to get by. The retro style boarding pass is too far off even at a quick glance.

            • @UrMumsOnlyFan: Ha, yeah I haven't actually even looked at the linked one. There are a few of these out there. I just linked the first one that came up. Grab an old boarding pass that people love to litter on the outside of the airport would be the easiest.

On other news, I did see virgin are allowing their passes to be used 6 (Virgin money) - 12 months (ANZ) past their use by date.

    • Had my boarding pass scrutinised at least once at Movida a few years ago and if I recall correctly they may have recorded some details. (Possibly more because they didn't seem to be a great fan of the arrangement at that time.) However I don't remember them checking the last time I was there.

You can't get away with this in the proper lounges as they'll always scan.

I assumed so too, however potentially not at the Rex lounge.

  • me too.. i have the citi pass, and qantas pass… wish we can just drop by to release relief our daily stresses…..

  • With Priority Pass membership, even if you have 2 credit cards that offer it, I don’t see how you can ‘double up’.

    • In the past I have just created new accounts. Got PP cards everywhere. Was hoping I don't need to, but looks like I do.

      • How did you do that? As they are credit cards would that not be difficult?

  • while i admire the attempt at bargaining

this also makes me a little sad

what the pandemic and the response to it has brought us to

  • I have Qantas Club lounge invites expiring in July and have a flight from MEL-OOL in June. However I'm unable to link the invites to the flight. Qantas told me it's due to the 50 people limit at MEL Qantas Club lounge. Anyone know any way around this? For example someone told me to try linking 48 hours before the flight - is it true that availability will open up then?

    • Maybe. . They also recently extended the expiry again for another 6 months.
