This recall has been out since November, and I guess people would know through the app, but for what's worth:

  • Kinda looks like a 'user fault' type of recall.

The recall points you to this

    https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360040763632-Down…

which basically says only use the supplied screws, and don't any other random screws you find laying around the place.

Appears Ring has done nothing wrong just end users. They sum it up pretty clearly by saying

If the doorbell is installed correctly, with the proper screws provided, there is no risk to consumers or potential hazard present.

    • exactly this ^

Old recall, and nothing really out of the ordinary tbf since it's predominantly just user error. The fact Ring are even doing recalls is more for customer satisfaction vs them having actually caused a faulty/dangerous product.

Imagine if you bought a tv wall bracket, but then installed it without using studs and with a 2m long screw that somehow went through and made contact with some cabling within the house, while also causing the TV to fall down… Cant exactly blame the manufacturer of the wall mount considering you didn't follow their instructions.

      • Yes I agree it's a bit of a off recall.

I'm guessing they 'forgot' to put that section about only using the correct screws in the manual and someone screwed into the battery? Maybe lost the screw and just picked a random one as a replacement, she'll be right close enough is good enough :)

It does seems like a major oversight for a US based company aka the home of we'll sue you for serving hot coffee without a warning label.

All Ring is doing in this recall is saying here is a new 'user manual' make sure you read the added section about using the right screws! They are not even saying if you used the wrong screws, we'll send you a replacement unit.
