Corsair SF450 Platinum Power Supply $119 + Delivery @ Umart

590

Decent price drop on this well reviewed SFX PSU. Picked one up for my partner's mini-itx build (started with last week's NR200P deal…), along with a WD Blue SN550 500GB NVMe, which also seemed like a good deal at $69.

With the gold version currently at $109 from Umart, aside from the efficiency increase, the extra $10 for the platinum version also gets you individually sleeved cables (for neater, easier routing) and an included SFX to ATX adapter.

Good find.. paid $140 a week ago for the gold @ umart.

Has done the job well with a 3600 & 5700XT build.

Is 450w enough? I thought it will be running at close to 400w when under load

      • +2

450w is fine if it only pulls 400w fully torqued. It'll just be noisier, marginally less efficient, and possibly run hotter under load than the SF750 would.

      • +1

It's been fine, haven't overclocked it

    • Damn is my 650w gold super overkill for my 10400f and 5600XT build then?

      • +3

Nope yours is fine. Less power draw, less noise, longer product life

And you can maybe reuse it in next build

      • +1

It's a little bit of overkill but not a big deal. 10400f in particular is a really efficient CPU so you wouldve been fine with 450w.

      • +3

Generally a PSU is most efficient at 50% utlisation so you're probably about right. Also the extra head room means you can account for current inrush plus additional longevity. I also like having extra as gives you room to upgrade in the future and not have to worry about a big enough PSU. Tbh for the few extra $$ to get a 750-850w PSU its totally worth it in the long run.

Cracking find sirTlib, paid $149 for this last week… Classic. Goodluck with your partner's itx build he must be a lucky guy

How do you know the partner is a guy?

If u want to build a gaming PC, this is SF600 gold for $149 https://www.pcbyte.com.au/store/product/corsair-sf600-sfx-60…

    • I just ordered this from them yesterday, best deal I could find for it too.

    • Great deal and I'd grab this one over the 450 for extra headroom and future proofing. Got the SF600 Gold in Jan for $185. For $149 it's a steal!

  • Is this ideal for keeping a monitor, modem and pc going for a while during power outage?

    • Should work fine connected to a decent UPS…

      • For about 10 minutes. What they're looking for is a diesel generator.

    • This isn't a UPS

    • This power supply is super interruptible

    • +2

Yes, for very brief interruptions. Has a 17.8 ms runtime at full load.

The Corsair SF series power supplies are very good quality. Mine is quiet and the fan only runs when the system is under load

  • Great price if you consider the sleeve included.

  • Also the CX450m is $66 delivered. I just ordered one to power my Optiplex 9020 I'm Frankensteining into a new case.

  • These have terrible coil whine

    • mine is dead silent even when fan is on.

    • What's your source for this claim?
Never had any coil whine from mine.
Reputable reviews made no mention of this.

      • +1

Personal experience, I believe it, there's a chance with all electronics to get a bad unit.

I received a second hand SF450 Gold recently, no coil whine or unexpected noises, the cables are very stiff but if you pull them apart they become much more manageable.

      • +1

I occasionally notice coil whine from my ITX build with a sf600 plat. Not sure if it's specifically from the psu, though it wouldn't surprise me if that was the source. But either way it doesn't really bother me, it's quiet enough to be covered by fan noise under moderate load — and that's with noctuas.

    • I got one of these, for those that are sensitive to very high pitched noise and have your computer close to earshot and well ventilated be warned it is annoying, it might be coil whine but it's extremely high pitched ~15-16kHz probably. Especially annoying as the fan doesn't run to hide it a bit unless you are pushing it with a gaming card.

Might only be a lightly loaded system thing as well - when gaming the GPU & CPU fans drown it out.

    • In fact not only do they (generally) not have terrible coil whine, they have no coil whine of any kind whatsoever. I’ve used several of these in my quiet builds and my very sensitive coil whine detector is yet to be triggered
