  • Great price compared to the 128gb Samsung U3 cards that are cheap at JB Hi-Fi at the moment, I wonder if the performance is comparable?

  • +4

    Read: up to100 MB/s
    Write: up to 45 MB/s

    • +1

Isn't this the same class as the Samsung / JB deal?

That post suggest the Samsung write speed is 60MB/s?

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/612842

      • +8

The U3 speed class only requires a write speed of 30MB/s, which is the highest UHS speed class.
There are classes that require higher speeds - such as the Video Speed Classes V60 and V90, which require 60MB/s and 90MB/s respectively.

In the case of the Samsung, it would be a peak write speed of 60MB/s, and they either chose not to get it certified for V60, or it wouldn't pass V60, or it is an old enough product that V60 wasn't common at the time.

The Samsung is probably the faster card in most cases.

That being said, the lexar also has an A1 speed class, which refers to application performance, which is more complicated than outright maximum read and write speeds, so may be more suitable for a phone or nintendo switch to run applications from, or to act as storage for running applications.

If you want more info, check out SDCard.org.
It was really helpful when I was looking to pick the best cards for my switch and go pro.

        • Which one would you recommend for a Mavic mini? :)

          • @Shane34: I'd recommend Samsung Evo but make sure its above 128gb. 64gb and lower have only 20MB/s write speed.

            • @silenthillrocks: Great, thanks for that :)

              • @Shane34: yep I agree with silenthillrocks - for a camera of any description, including those on drones - speed is king, so if picking between the 2, go the samsung.

          • @Shane34: This one should work fine as the Mavic Pro comes with a 16GB version of this exact card.

  • Oh well, still have a 128gb waiting for me at JB from a few days ago to pick up, bummer.

  • +3

Was $19 last week, was going to post too , but good job!

  • +4

Good lord, that's the cheapest price I think we've seen for a branded U3 card of that capacity.

  • Is this one good for a Switch? Not sure if I even need one, but just to future proof?

    • +1

Yes but unless you buy digital games (or games that require a big download), you probably don’t need a MicroSD

      • Silly me got a 400Gb micro SD in my switch… Got my switch late 2020 and I'm still not using the microSD, haha…

    • +26

Must be good then, since >90% of modern electronics are made there.

        • +1

Guys i don't think we have enough facts to crucify him.

You seem to be lacking education so any little bit helps.

    • +8

What device did you type this message on I'm curious?

  • Man this is so cheap, I'm almost tempted to buy it for my Pi2 even though it probably won't make much of any differences.

  • -2

Lexar is absolute junk since the brand name was sold to a no-name Chinese company back in 2017. No better than any other no-name brand. If you value your data, stick with samsung and sandisk.

    • +6

Is this just an emotional claim or is it backed up by statistics? Most photographer's sites are still ranking Lexar cards in the same league as SanDisk and Samsung.

Also Lexar has official sales and support channels in Australia. This is definitely NOT the same as buying no name SD cards.

Disclaimer - I'm not recommending them over other major brands but there is no evidence that they are suddenly bad once ownership changed in 2017.

      • +9

I used Lexar cards solely in my gopro's used regularly for motorsport. Over time they would start recording and then stop randomly after a few minutes. Switched all the cards from Lexar to Sandisk Extreme's and havent had a problem since. I'm surprised these cards are still around, but I wouldnt touch them again.

      • +8

Not sure what you mean by “emotional” claim. Also not sure why so many negs on my comment and upvotes on yours, just trying to warn people.

I’m a professional photographer and videographer and have had lexar cards fail on me, the same has happened to colleagues. But don’t take my word for it, here’s a story from one of the photography sites you speak of: https://petapixel.com/2018/10/02/lessons-from-losing-a-week-…

That article also goes into stats on bad reviews for various memory card companies - the various Lexar cards have 2-5 times the number of negative reviews as their Sandisk and Sony counterparts.

  • Will this work ok in a Switch?

    • Why not?

    • +1

I used once. It lasted about 2 months and bang….data are still there but unable to write or delete.

  • Hmm to buy online now or instore tommorow

    • Gone tomorrow.

      • Alright that solves that

  • +2

$0.18 for credit card or paypal payment.

  • +3

These are great in dash cams too, had one running in mine since 2018 with no issues.

  • +17

this exact card in 64gb has broken down on me like 2 yrs ago and Lexar had refused to fix/replace it under lifetime warranty stating some pathetic excuse that the company has a new ownerhip or so. I do not care about who owns it at all. I only care about fulfulling your obligations…
As a rusult I will never ever buy anything lexar in my life again and will discourage everyone from doing so, no matter how cheap or a good deal it is :(

    • +3

      Thanks for real feedback

    • -1

Do people really believe any form of storage will last forever?

      • +10

No, but we believe what the manufacturer has promised on warranty.
By the way, Lexar did change ownership, and the card quality is worse now.

      • Scientologists engraved the complete works of Ron Hubbard onto stainless steel tablets

      • i need to believe as i am using them in my time capsule to store more stuff

  • Can this be used for drones?

    • +1

Yes but you are better off with Samsung Evo Plus.

      • +3

Yep I also found out the hard way, I'd spend the extra $3 on the Samsung.

  • +1

    Thanks Op!

  • +9

I wouldn't touch Lexar to be honest. this brand is nothing like the premium thing it used to be

  • I bought the 256Gb version of this a year ago when it was $37. Works great for on the Switch

  • +1

Still haven't received mine from the last deal at $19, almost 4 weeks ago now.

  • -2

I had a Lexar 512 that died few hrs in and had to send it back. I'd pay a little more and get the Samsung.

    • +6

What did they say when you contacted them about it?

      • No response until I raised a PayPal claim, then They said wait until 4/4 and they would get back to me, i purchased 3/3.

  • Sorry, but someone clarify the “free shipping” part of this post for me? I visit the site and it says free shipping on orders over $79.

    • I just ordered one with free shipping.
It appears to be a deal for this item.
Did you click on the link at all, it says "Free Shipping" right under the price.

      • Haha. Obviously I didn’t… then. Later I did, and bought one.
Thanks for the reply though :)

Great job 'Nerd, now I'm not only buying your watch deals….. I so need to turn off your notification :-)

Anyone else get an email from Vindale Research requesting confirmation of a subscription not long after buying this?

    • I got one from Vandelay Industries, they sell latex.

  • +2

This worth getting ? Quick research it seems these cards have a higher failure rate compared to other brands. Was about to purchase 2 of these but now Im thinking if its better to pay more just for the JB Samsung deal. Anyone care to comment on reliability ?

    • I've had one in my dashcam for several months now without issue.

      • +1

Mine started playing up after a few months, and was quickly replaced with a SanDisk.

        • hmm 50 / 50 chance of something going wrong.

  • What are the ones for dash cams for use in Australias heat? It's called "High Endurance" right?

    • +1

High Endurance and MLC.. not all are MLC.

  • +1

$0.18 payment surcharge if you want to use Paypal or a credit card.

  • Multiple lexar cards were all junk. They work once with factory format but play up severely after you reformat them down the track. Returned mine for refunds after linux mac and pc all failed to format in any way that worked, and yes I do know what im doing lol.

  • I should add android to the list of devices that failed to work reliably with lexar after wipes and reformats etc.

  • Got two. One for $19 and one for $15 (in previous ozbargain deal). Good cards but for those using prebuilt images for retro etc, just know that this is 126GB as reported by balena etcher.

  • I'd like a faster card in my Raspberry Pi4, anyone know if this would cut it? Is there even faster? I'm happy to pay around $20 - I only need 32GB

    • For Pi I believe the best performer is Samsung Evo Plus U3. In this use case, random read/write speed is a lot more relevant.
