        I advise against upgrading the CPU or the motherboard.
        RAM, GPU and SSDs upgrades is definitely on the easier side. As for additional fans (e.g. Arctic ones you see on OzB often), on the easier side too, and get a fan hub if it's too troubling.
        PSU and CPU cooler in the middle of the pack.

        PC cases now have an exposed back to make it easier to install CPU cooler plates on the back of the motherboard. You should watch a video of it to see if it's something you're able to do, otherwise not worth the stress.

        Minus power supply, motherboard and potential OVerclocking and upgrade potential but if you are going for a prebuilt with no intention on either, definitely this one.

    I want to buy this but concerned over the performance due to thermal throttling. Can anyone who previously bought this comment on the actual performance of the build and whether throttling from heat is significant?

      I had the earlier G5 2070 version of this.

      Yeah it throttled, I replaced the stock CPU cooler with a CM TX3 (its one of a few that lines up with the custom Dell motherboard CPU bracket which is soldered to the case). Replaced the back stock fan with a Noctua.

      Once that issue was solved it's been good, (I have it attached to the TV as my Steambox).

    In my opinion these things are a terrible choice long term.
    They use non standard motherboards and power supplies making long term serviceability an issue.
    Some use a bastardised version of the new 12v only spec…. which was a damn terrible idea.
    We should have just straight up moved to 24v, so much could be achieved with much savings in copper and internal wiring.
    If such a thing were to ever occur we could potentially power monitors over the same Type C cables they have the image transmitted over.

      Intel change the socket so often, it really makes no difference building your own PC now. You'll be ripping out and changing the motherboard even for the new 12th gen CPUs

        That's exactly the issue, you can't change the motherboard in this machine.
        It uses a Dell specific power connector instead of the 24pin ATX.
        So recycling the case / psu is not an option.

          If u wanted a really good case (appearance wise, and cooling) you wouldn't be getting on of these dell towers anyway. They are good for the person that wants to buy an off the shelf gaming machine for themselves or their kids and has no idea about computers. I have a 7th gen dell gaming desktop and it's still kicking strong. At that time you couldn't even build a same spec PC for that price with the crappiest no name components.

    Get the 8940 as it come with an extra 2 tb HDD, an intel is 10700k. It also is the only one that I know of to come with a tower cooler instead of the stock cooler and vram heatsink.

    As I was writing this I realised it is out of stock.

        I placed the order pretty early on, I got an email from dell with an invoice and a tracking info. The tracking suggested 12/april. however when i went on the website it was booked for delivery today.

        29th of March is when i ordered supposedly.

          How did you find the temps while gaming?

          I just played Doom - Eternal last night in 4K Ultra settings and the CPU temps didn't go past 84deg. The video card didn't push past 75deg. I was quite pleased with the stock cooling.

          I did purchase the Noctua CPU heatsink/fan just in case, but found I haven't had to use it yet.

          OK I tried to play "Control" last night with Ray-tracing turned on and the CPU temps were hitting around 90+degrees.
          I installed the Noctua CPU cooler and WOW……temps were barely pushing low 70degrees with the PC side cover on.

          The GPU temps remained around mid-high 70degrees regardless.
          I guess Doom - Eternal wasn't working the CPU as much as Control did.

                  @wswgin: I did move the original exhaust fan to the front intake, however, I found it was adding a fair bit of noise. The Noctua's are dead silent. I'll be replacing the original front intake fan with a 80mm Noctua.

                  Unfortunately for the GPU, there's no exhaust grill in the back of the case for hot air to escape. As a result, I'm not sure putting a front intake for the GPU will help a great deal.

                  The computer did crash last night while playing CONTROL with the case side panel fitted. However, after removing the side panel I managed to play 2hrs without a single hiccup. GPU temps hovered around mid-high 70degrees.

                  CPU temps remained impressively below 70degrees the whole time.

                  @wswgin: The 3070 is a long card. Removing the GPU plastic bracket will only allow you to fit a 10mm thick fan. There's hardly any room to put a fan in the bottom front intake for the GPU.

                      It made no difference to the temps.

                      I've also replaced the front intake (original case fan) with a Noctua 80mm.
                      It is much quieter now.

                      Am happy with the CPU temps.
                      The only thing left to try is undervolting the GPU to lower the temps.

                        I made the following mods

                        • removed the 3.5 hhd bay in the front,
                        • added a samsung 870 evo ssd, got it for $104 from last weeks posting
                        • added a WIFI 6 AX adapter for faster wifi
                        • removed the stock exhaust fan and changed to Noctua 92 NFA9, also added one in the front for intake
                        • removed the stock CPU cooler changed to CM Hyper TX3, should have gone for the NH-U9S, it's easier to install and more quite, but costs almost $100 more than the Hyper TX3.

                        was planning to use the stock fan in the front for below the Noctua, but there isn't enough room in fron of GPU, also the stock fan is really bad and loud.

                        I think I'm done now, needed to buy a few more screws and washers to install the CPU cooler, and needed to get a SATA cable, 4 pin spliter & extender to install the fan.

                        now the PC runs very cool and nice.

        As mentioned before, the 3070 is similar in design to the Nvidia Founders edition.
        The Geforce RTX logo appears on the side of the graphics card and is LED lit which is a nice feature if you have a clear case.
