  • does anyone know if the new Hub has that huge plug on the end like the 1st gen?

You can see it at 48secs here

damnit.. thats the one thing i hate about it

        • You can use 3rd party adapter?

          • -1

            @Pricebeat: which ones?

            • @jv: Google search “15w power adapter”

              • @Pricebeat:

                Google search “15w power adapter”

                So it runs off 5v?

                I thought it needed more.

                • @jv: Indeed, Current is 15w, but it requires 14v @ 1.1A.

                  5v won't cut the mustard.

                  • @ash2000: why NOT a USBC or PD? including a Power adapter is so dumb, wake up Google

                    • @Jamesx: It's a good question but the answer is all about warranty claims/returns.

If they were to put a standard USB C jack on the back, people would use their own chargers. Now that's fine for a low current device like rechargable headphones or phones that can negotiate voltage/amps. Not so for devices that require constant high current to operate reliably.

This happened with the first gen Google home Mini. Even though most USB chargers people had could accommodate the 5v 1amp requirements of the mini, there's ways a small percentage that couldn't. The result: increased warranty claims/product returns.

The 2nd gen moved to a more proprietary barrel Jack, the same that's used on all devices since.

          • @Pricebeat: its connected to the device

            • @87percent: What is it that you don't like about the adapter plug?

              • +7

@ash2000: It's too big and you can't easily use the power point next to it.

                • +1

@jv: Oh ok…..I've never noticed it, but now I look at one of mine the socket next to it is empty

They've obviously used the standard plug enclosure for all markets to the detriment of A/NZ consumers.

                • -1

@jv: Cut the original plug and connect the wires to a smaller plug. (Warning: do not perform this activity at home)

        • At least it's smaller than the current Nest Hub Max. But I agree, they are both very oversized.

  • So you can stack the Latitude + LB offers?

    • I thought you couldn't. After applying a voucher, LatitudePay is removed as a payment option.

      • I can still see it as a payment method

        • I just tried it too. You're right! I think its store vouchers and gift cards that won't work. Promo codes are fine.

  • split this purchase with a friend i wanted google TV he wanted nest hub. Good deal for products that are not typically discounted or in the nest hubs case is brand new.

    • Did you order just now?

apparently the heavily marketed sleep sensing feature is subscription based, and for now, everyone's using a "free trial."

from next year, they will start charging for it.. just something to keep it mind if you decide to upgrade

1 Sleep Sensing requires a subscription service.
3 Enjoy a preview of Sleep Sensing until next year. As we learn and innovate on this new technology, we’re excited to explore how this can become a part of the Fitbit and Fitbit Premium experiences in the future. We will keep you updated on any future plans related to Fitbit and Sleep Sensing.

But I don't have a bed in my kitchen.

      • +13

You have been using your bench top wrong

    • Google always does this. They made Google Photos storage unlimited and free up to 4k, and now they've changed it back to normal. Really wished sleep sensing was free.

      • They more likely are just copying Sleep Cycle app which is also subscription based and has similar features.

  • I thought you couldn't use vouchers if you wanted to pay with LatitudePay. After you apply the voucher, LatitudePay disappears as a payment option.

    • Still showing up as payment option after $20 discount

      • I just tried it too. You're right! I think its store vouchers and gift cards that won't work. Promo codes are fine.

  • Pretty disappointing to call this a 2nd gen Nest Hub. I will just stick to my 1st gen hub.

    • +1

the speaker is still apparently subpar, slightly better then original but still crap. It's not the same increase in audio quality from the google mini to nest mini

  • Thanks OP, just purchased this deal!

  • If anyone wanted to split let me know. I want the hub but no interest in the TV
