          @thatonethere: Kept some, bought for family, flipped some on ebay, MM.
          Wife is still using a XR i got new sealed for $600 18 months ago.
          I have a 12 pro max 256gb i got brand new never used for $1500 a month ago.

        Give us the rundown on you can be 100% sure you're not getting a 'non australian model' or stolen product? What checks do you do?

          @dstar012: Receipts if new or place of purchase, some people upgrade contracts and keep their old phone and sell for cash, or some buy and don't like the size or want to go back to android, can check serial no on apple's web site, tells you what it is and warranty, if used you can stick your sim in and set it up as new and check only takes a few minutes.
          I am in a town of 60,000 so may be easier here than in a major city, but have never had a problem.
          One 6S i bought was actually from Hawaii but i knew that, screen went and apple replaced the phone for free was in the 1 year warranty for OS phones.
