Tacx Flux S or Neo 2T

Hey guys,

I'm hoping someone can help me decide whether to get the Tacx Flux S or Neo 2T indoor trainer.

I currently have the Tacx Flow and it's permanently setup with my spare bike. I quite enjoy the experience and use it with Zwift on rainy days or mornings when it's still dark outside. I don't train on it every day and my levels are probably still only slightly above average. My power to weight ratio is around 2.5. Reason for changing is not for upgrade, it's more because I need a second trainer so my son can train with me. His bike has 650B wheels so to switch bikes on the Flow I have to do multiple steps and it's very fiddly. What I want to do is have my bike hooked to the new trainer, and re-configure the Flow to his bike, and connect it when he needs to use it.

Right now I'm just tossing between whether to get the Flux S or the Neo 2T. Just wondering if anyone has actually ridden on both and can comment on the differences, best features of the Neo 2T to justify paying that price? I can't find any local bike shops that have these trainers setup for people to try so I'm relying on experiences from others.

Thanks so much in advance.

  • I have the Neo 2T. I got it because it has great support for thru-axle bikes. It's fantastic, although we (My Tacx and I) are not friends when climbing ADZ.

It's reasonably quiet and the integrated power, speed, cadence are awesome. It works well with my ATV and is easy enough to change bikes.

    • Thanks so much. I did read a lot of good things about the Neo 2T. I guess it's just me trying to justify spending that amount of money.

    I have a Wahoo KICKR Core - $1200ish - and I love it.

I rode the Flux S and the core before purchasing, and I found the Kickr to be quieter. There are not huge differences between them, to be honest. You will be very happy with both.

DC Rainmaker has done a good comparison of them, which is worth watching.

    • Dang, looks like prices of trainers have yet to drop (or at least discounted). Was lucky to get my Core for sub-$1000 just before the lockdown.

I think the Flux S is the base model of Tacx's direct drive trainers. While the 1500W (vs 1800W for the Core) would be unachievable for most people (me included), but the Flux's maximum hill incline is 10% vs the Core's 16% made me choose the latter. I read that the Flux S is suited for SRAM/Shimano, and but if you run Campy there's an additional part you need to buy/change.

I just bought a Kickr Core on the weekend for $1137 from 99bikes via price beat of this site. I bought it in-store to save on shipping (it is heavy!).

It's not the best price ever, hence I didn't post it on Ozbargain - not to mention I have no idea what the posting rules are for price beat… So I'm just mentioning it here in case anyone else is shopping around.

  • I just ordered the Tacx Flux S last week. With Bupa discount it was $800. Upgrading from Tacx Bushido mostly due to noise but looking forward to the other advantages of wheel off trainer.

The only downside is shipping is 5 to 8 weeks. So I can only help you with thoughts if you can wait that long ;-)

  • That said, if I had the benefit of hindsight, I would have gotten the Kickr and just bought the additional Axis Action Feet

  • The incline and max power will be more than enough for me on the Flux S or any trainer really, I don't think I'll ever reach the top end. The main reason for going for Tacx is similar to @garybath, I have a 25% off discount from AIA so it makes the Flux S $800. People are selling second hand ones for even higher than that price. All the Wahoo ones I can see are all around $1k as well, hence the decision to just get a brand new one.

I'm quite set on the Flux S and the shipping is not too much of an issue as I still have the Flow to use.

Thanks all for the help so far.

Looking at your needs, yep the Flux S would be more than sufficient for you (even 10% on ADZ is painful enough). If you don't need it, not worth spending the extra $$. And if you need to upgrade, you probably won't lose much (if any). Good luck and happy Zwifting!

Agree with Shuey. Sounds like the Flux S is the way to go - especially at that price!
