What's Is The Best Gaming Laptop Deal Posted on OzB in the past 12 Months?

In your opinion what's the most killer deal on a gaming laptop posted here in the past 12 months or so?

I wanted to get an idea on what's a good bargain and what's a terrific bargain for a gaming laptop.

  • Dell G7 17 (Previous Model) - was $2200 down to $1200
    i7 9750H
    16GB RAM
    RTX 2070 with Max-Q 4GB
    512GB SSD

I had to get the motherboard replaced within 1 month, but I've had it going for just over a year with little to no problems
RGB Keypad and huge 17" Full HD screen - sweeet

    • When was it $1200?

      • End of 2019 - Can't find the link sorry

    • can u share the thread?
can't seem to find the deal.

      sounds amazing though

Sorry, I've led you astray, invoice says 15/12/2019

Retail = $2,149 (according to invoice)

I don't seemed to have records of my buy price, but it was about that price, maybe 1300, but yes I thought it was a steal and jumped on it.

I remember the comments yabbering about overheating etc, the guy who came out and replaced the motherboard within the first month was good and I haven't had any troubles since.

I've been using a desktop stand and avoid having it on carpet or on the duvet etc

If you buying a laptop, i suggest having a list of things you "need" ie 17 inch screen, or 2k resolution etc, then go to every website that sells laptops and compare pricing and specs.

Ram can be added (if its not soldered on) - but this isn't generally an issue if you buy 16gb pre-installed
Hard drive will be replaced - 256gb SSD haha, 1TB minimum for me

Search the laptop - gaming sections, you will get a vibe of whats good and whats bad
I'm heading overseas in 2 weeks, so I bought a smaller 15" Dell over christmas to carry around, stunning specs (not as grunty as my G7 though) and I had no end of troubles with it. so after multiple winging and complaining to dell i got it collected and refunded.

You win some you lose some - my main point with that one was that it kept jumping when watching video of any kind.

I recently got a Toshiba Flex 5 - touch screen, smaller screen, decent specs but no graphics card - $800
I had an issue with a driver for that when i replaced the hard drive, Toshiba were next to useless - however i found the drivers were still on the old HD and its now right as rain (good)

Now what to do with my gaming machine…

        • Thanks for a in depth advice.

I know gaming laptops receive a lot of hate but I unfortunately can't have a desktop setup.

I tried googling the 2070 max-q 4GB to see how it compares against a 1660ti but can only find it in a 8GB card.
