I own 2 of the x-mini II's which I got for about $30 from aldi a year and a half ago. I love mine for travelling, BBQs, outdoor gatherings etc etc
You can daisy chain the speakers together, if you use 2 in becomes stereo instead of mono and it reduces the distortion aswell. I have also had them playing with 4 in total (mate also has 2) and they really do a decent job for the price and size.
Ill +1 for the x-mini II too, its incredible sound for such a small speaker and the ability to link them together is perfect for getting together with mates - a day after I bought mine two other mates ordered em and now we have atleast stereo sound whenever we hang out.
Thanks guys for responding. Seems like it might have to be the xmini.
I got an X mini II - you can get one from eBay for around $30 delivered. It's actually quite small and the battery lasts a good 5-6 hours (depends on the volume). Sound quality is good with a noticeable bass when you pop it open. However I found the maximum volume not loud enough. Maybe I was expecting too much :-)
However is $30 worth it? Probably not. You can get a no brand knock off for around $7-$8 delivered from Hong Kong. I even saw one at that price in Aldi recently at that price - lookalikes with similar mechanism. Or with $30 you can get a lesser brand with Bluetooth which I think would be quite useful. X mini has a very short lead (~10cm).
