International Removal - 40% Increase in Actual Price Vs Quoted Price

Hi guys,

Not sure if this is the right forum but it kinda relates to travel.

We recently moved from Auckland to Brisbane. We used Grace removals to move our stuf and paid the shipping fee to Grace NZ before they started. We also got quote for storage in AUD once our stuff is in Brisbane.

Our stuff arrived Brisbane last wee and Grace AU just gave us a new price for storage which is 40% more expensive than what we were quoted by Grace NZ. We tried to dispute this with them but they said this is what they (Grace AU) quoted Grace NZ and this is the price they charge.

Is quote a legally binding offer? What are my options? Where Can I dispute this further?

Thank you

Was there any contract/T&Cs they sent to you alongside the original quote, or any on their website?

If there was, it likely states that the quote is not binding and subject to change etc.

If there wasn't any contract/T&Cs and Grace NZ represented that the original quote will be the price you will pay, then you'll have grounds for dispute. The first step would be to contact the person who gave you the original quote with a copy of the original email they sent with the original quote, and tell em that you've been asked to pay extra.

    • There wasn't contract/T&C on the quote for the storage cost.

There was a contract for the shipping itself. We asked for storage quotes later.

It was an email from Grace NZ saying your storage would be approximately AUD $X. However I don't know if they can justify 40% increase due to "approximately".

Unfortunately since it was just an approximate number on an email I doubt you'd get anywhere arguing about it.

Guessing your stuff is in containers and not unpacked? Might be cheaper to get alternate quotes and perhaps get your container moved over?

I've used Fort Knox (Victoria) in the past and they have been reasonable, not the cheapest but facility was clean and well secured.

    Covid tax

  • It depends on if it was a quote or an estimate, if its a quote then that price is binding, if it was an estimate then not.
