Australia Post Parcel Tracking Tells Sender "Delivered" but Tracking History for Me Says "In transit to next facility"

tl;dr

Bought something from Aliexpress and had it sent to a Parcel Locker. Aus Post already sent a status of "delivered" to Aliexpress even though it still says "it's on its way" in my tracking view. Have opened an enquiry with Aus Post for them to investigate.

Details:

I bought something (under $100) from Aliexpress and paid with PayPal, used Parcel Locker as delivery address. I have used Parcel Locker a few times before, all without problems. This time I got an email from Aliexpress first, saying it's delivered.

In my tracking view on Aus Post website, the overview does say "delivered", but clicking into the details shows "it's on its way". And the tracking history stopped at "In transit to next facility". I waited for the expected email and SMS with pick up codes, but they never came. Then Aliexpress sent another email urging me to confirm delivery. So I opened an enquiry with Aus Post, and they said they would investigate it but could take 10 business days.

What really peeves me is that Aus Post sent a "delivered" status to Aliexpress while the tracking history still says "in transit". Is this someone at Aus Post forgetting to do something (eg. tick a box, sign-off something, etc)? Or is it someone at Aus Post stealing packages destine for Parcel Lockers?

Questions:

  • The order status on Aliexpress will soon become "closed". Should I do something about that? I have sent messages to the seller to let them know the situation (needed a bit of back and forth to explain it).

  • If Aus Post doesn't find my package, I'll probably use Buyer Protection from PayPal. Does this mean the seller wouldn't get paid? This is not really what I want as it would be unfair to them.

This has nothing to do with the security of Parcel Lockers.

Also did you contact Auspost for an update?

I've had something similar happen where the parcel was showing as delivered online however I never received an email/sms confirmation with the access code.

I contacted Aus Post & was advised that parcel was at the local P.O as parcel lockers were full - they were unable to explain why I didn't receive any notification.

You can try checking with the local P.O to the parcel locker location tomorrow (if open) or wait until Mon unless you hear back from Aus Post in the meantime.

I have had similar. Turns out it was still in the delivery van, but it was marked delivered. Had to open a case with auspost. its likely human error and happens a bit with them.

    • OK, thank you both for the suggestion. I'll enquire at the PO next to the locker.

Australia Post Parcel Locker - Not as Secure as I Thought

And how was the parcel locker NOT secure in your example?

It could be at the post office, I know sometimes they put it their when they get full and you never really know what they put on the thing.

In saying that, I've had quite a few packages that have just had the wrong status beeped through. I don't know where or how, but sometimes they accidentally put in the wrong status like delivered when its only just got processed by some place. So it could very well still be on its way. I probably would recommend waiting for a bit, since you've already opened the aus post investigation.

I use Australia Post's Parcel Collect service fairly regularly and my last three deliveries have been marked as Delivered without me receiving the promised notifications. Upon investigation, the StarTrack Express driver has been entering the parcel as Delivered when he drops it at the post office, instead of entering it as Awaiting Collection. Check with the post office. In my case, Australia Post refuses to take any action, repeatedly closing my enquiries without doing anything but telling me that I need to take it up with StarTrack Express, as if they are not a wholly owned subsidiary of Australia Post and the only carrier that can be used for Australia Post's Parcel Collect service that is incorrectly using the Australia Post item tracking system. I have now convinced the post office agent to reclassify the item correctly when she processes it, something I have previously been told is impossible.
