Melb Comedy Festival (MICF) Discussions (24/3 - 18/4) [VIC]

Hi,

Thought I'd just start a forum for MICF discussions, we've been going for about 4-5yrs now and a few of the comedians also perform at Fringe. Got spreadsheets of who we like/don't. Ideally we'd see 3-4 shows a night.

As an ozbargainer I'll be buying most of my tix on promotix (<$10 a pair) and https://www.comedyfestival.com.au/mitsubishi-diamond-advanta… ($20+bf).

So far we've booked for Christian Hull (as seen on social media) for his first show, and Karen from Finance (hilarious drag queen, we've seen her before). I'll be posting the shows that we see in the comments as we see them, please do the same.

    I myself just have one ticket - Akmal.

    2019 I went to maybe 3 shows - Akmal, Dave Hughes (I think), and someone not as famous.

      Have met Akmal a couple of times around 15 years ago … how time flies!

      Thanks for the Curious suggestion - our rate has some hotel credit so we'll definitely go there for a drink or three.

  I've never been, don't mind seeing comedians here in Syd.

  I watched the gala on ABC last night and found it all pretty underwhelming. My fave Arj Barker didn't really do it for me but Joel Creasy seems to be getting funnier every time.

  Comedy Up Late - Varies but this is underground, crammed and just the venue and over enthusiasic clapping/cheering was awful. Filmed for tv I believe.

  I do believe comedy to be subjective though. The worst ones fumble and don't have a strong sense of direction, oh and then there's comedians who use this space as therapy (Laura Davis - Marco Polo) forget the money, I just want my hour back. Alas the show won awards, but you know we don't all like the same thing.
