Seagate Portable HD Not Accessible

Hi Folks

Plugged in the portable expansion to look at some old docs. It's telling me it not accebile. Googled the issue and none have worked.

Plugged it in the TV (saved movies / pics etc) - works fine.

Any one experienced something like this before?

  • Tried a different USB port?

    • Tried all the ports in my PC and I have plenty

  • I assume windows 10.

    Windows key + X
    Select risk management

    Can you see drive

    • Yep, it's there. Healthy. NTFS
When right clicking drive and going security it says I dont have read permissions but I'm the administrator

      • Does it show partitions or is it just all unallocated?

  • Can you see it in the disk management tool ? Maybe its Drive letter is assigned to another drive. See if you can change the drive letter

Try on a computer running Linux. Easiest way is just to grab a spare USB and put Ubuntu on it, boot from the USB and plug in the hard drive and try to access the files. Since Linux usually does't care about file permissions in NTFS, this method should work.
