Graphics Card Reccommendation - Low Budget

Hi guys, non gamer here and i am looking at this deal with with the Ryzen and MB package.

https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/610276

Which GPU and Ram do you guys recommend for this build? We currently have a rather old Radeon 7700HD 1GB. Or am i better just sticking to a CPU or MB with integrated graphics? Really only using it for web surfing, Youtube, Netflix and doing some charting on TradingView. I guess would be good if can run basic games like Bloons TD or Football Manager. We use our computers for at least 7 years.

Thanks.

Pair it with a GTX 1030. It'll do the job and allow for some light gaming

    • Thanks good suggestion.

You could just upgrade to the Ryzen combo and transfer the 7700 over to the new PC for now, I'm not familiar with those games but if they are not GPU intensive I'd think you would be fine with the 7700.

    • Thanks. The 7700 came out 10 years ago. Was thinking would i be better off getting a CPU with integrated graphics?

      PROCESSORS
      Ryzen 3 2200G 3.5/3.7GHz RX Vega 8 8 1100MHz
      Ryzen 3 2200GE 3.2/3.6GHz RX Vega 8 8 1100MHz
      Ryzen 5 2400G 3.6/3.9GHz RX Vega 11 11 1250MHz
      Ryzen 5 2400GE 3.2/3.8GHz RX Vega 11 11 1250MHz
      Ryzen 3 3200G 3.6/4.0GHz RX Vega 8 8 1250MHz
      Ryzen 3 3200GE 3.3/3.8GHz RX Vega 8 8 1200MHz
      Ryzen 5 3400G 3.7/4.2GHz RX Vega 11 11 1400MHz
      Ryzen 5 3400GE 3.3/4.0GHz RX Vega 11 11 1300MHz

These are the ones i found with integrated graphics. Thanks.

The GT 1030 is pretty poor value and should only be considered if you really can't get your hands on a Ryzen APU (which is another name for Ryzens with integrated Vega graphics)

From what I can tell… the Ryzen 5 3400G is sold out everywhere and the ones in stock have massive markups.

The Ryzen 3 3200G is $169 which is not great considering they used to cost $130 2 years ago, but I think you're most likely better served going with the Ryzen 3 3300x and sticking with your current Radeon GPU.

It's likely your Radeon 7700HD may provide enough GPU power already and you shouldn't need to upgrade it if all you're playing are simple 2d games.

        • Thanks Scrim. I might just do that. Main issue now is CPU is always running close to 100%. Netflix + Browser + Office and it's done and starts lagging. Will just stick to my HD7700 for now. If it goes, i will get something else.

        • My understanding with APUs is that you need a decent amount of RAM to compensate for what you would get on a dedicated GPU. Is that correct?

          • @Master Bates: Not just the amount of memory but also memory speed. You could have 16GB system memory (which is good enough) but if you aren't careful and buy slow memory it can negatively impact the performance of the Vega graphics.

  • What games/activities do you do?
The 3300x is a great CPU. However, current GPU prices are through the roof.

See if you can pickup a used GTX 1650 super. I think this is the best bang for buck card IMO and you can play games like Cs:Go with nice fps.

I would not recommend integrated graphics cards. Instead buy a cheap used one now and then upgrade when you can.

  • Wouldn't recommend getting a new GPU unless you need more graphical power. From what you've mentioned, it looks like you need more processing (CPU) power, and possibly more RAM and/or a faster drive, depending on your usage.

The 3300X really shines in gaming usage as it has a high IPC (instructions per clock) and high single core performance, which is important for gaming. For your use, it looks like you're better off with the 3600 as it has more cores and threads (4c8t vs 6c12t) and therefore more able to handle multitasking, but with your use case you won't really notice the difference — at least for another 5 years or longer.

What you will feel the difference in, besides getting a new CPU, is getting more RAM so you don't bottleneck your system when multitasking — 16gb should suffice. Just grab the cheapest 16gb dual-channel DDR4 RAM that comes up on this site, like this expired deal.

I don't know what drive you're currently using, but if you don't currently use an SSD for your operating system (OS), I would recommend getting something like this. If you don't have a lot of stuff on your computer, you can use the SSD for your OS, programs, and your data, and you'll see a noticeable difference compared to HDD speeds.

TL;DR: don't recommend a new GPU, recommend any cheap dual-channel DDR4 like this. If you don't currently use an SSD, get this instead of a new GPU.
