How did you come to this figure?

  • I had this for $116 delivered off ebay. The going rate there is cheap. Especially now with shopback gift cards.

    • Cool i can get it for $89 delivered but too expensive for me using afterpay code and 10% of Ebay cards :)
      Edit : $83 each buying 2 I had to fire .

I love my Technic tracked racer.

My concern with these newer ones is that they use an app and smart phone as the controller. I'd much rather hand my kid a Lego infrared controller than my smart phone.

Apps also become obsolete all the time, but a proper remote control will work for life.

Its so woefully complicated to steer with accuracy if it hits higher speeds. I modded my controller to have a wheel attach over the two sticks to work as a regular steering wheel

      • Do you have a link with pointers how to achieve something like this?

I basically avoided buying it for this reason alone.

        • Could you just replace it with a older non Bluetooth motor, one that uses a controller?

        • Do you have a link with pointers how to achieve something like this?

There's a custom smartphone app called BrickController 2 (Android & iOS compatible) that allows you to control the newer generation of Powered Up/Control+ Lego sets as well as the older infrared-based Power Functions sets, using Android-compatible gamepads (including PS4 and Xbox controllers).

Check out the demo here and a longer tutorial on how to get it working here.

      You're not alone.

The main issue isn't actually the longevity of the Lego Control+ app (though that is a valid concern), it's that steering RC toys via a touchscreen interface is so incredibly inferior to physical remote controls and in the case of Off-Road Buggy you have one virtual joystick for both movement and acceleration, which is absolutely retarded and makes the thing impossible to control at top speed (even the 42099 4x4 X-Treme Off-Roader which also uses the Control+ app has a UI with separate virtual joysticks for forward/reverse and steering).

  • Toys R Us have it at the same price plus 7.95 delivery.. 1 day left, so midnight tonight??
