  • How long does it take to degrade?

All plastics are biodegradable if you wait long enough

    • Our products are made from 100% biodegradable Biopolymers, which ensure that the iPhone 12 phone case can biodegrade within 5 years.

We are using Wheat Straw Biopolymer, which is an innovative material that has almost the same properties as oil-based plastics, but its molecular structure is easier to biodegrade. Means you get the same protection, but less waste!

Every year more than 1 billion phone cases are produced worldwide. We used plastic to protect our expensive beloved phones, but unfortunately plastic has become a big problem for our planet. Oil-base plastic can take around 400 years to degrade, causing unprecedented pollution.

      • Does it require industrial composting to have it degrade within 5 years?

        • I have no idea. I imagine doing something like shredding it first would make it faster

    • Hi Deme,
thanks for your interest in Sustainic products.
it is true oil-based plastic can biodegrade in 400 to 1000 years, it takes so long because the molecular structure is very hard to break down by nature/micro-organisms, bacterias…
On the other hand you have Biopolymers, made from Wheat, Corn or other plants, their molecular structure is simpler and can be breakdown by nature, in the case of Sustainic iPhone case, within 5 years.

Using a compost will accelerate the breakdown as composts are rich in micro-organisms and bacterias, so that's the preferred way.

      Best regards,
      Sustainic
