That's exactly right. Batteries are consumables and are indeed guaranteed to fail when they reach the end of their lives.
My car requires removal of a stabiliser bar before you can remove the battery cover to get at the negative.
Good luck jumping that in a hurry!
Ground it to a bolt on the chassis!
Or to one of the specific jumper or charging cable points on the chassis
