Impressions of the new Google Nest Hub 2?

The new Google Nest Hub 2 with Soli Radar based sleep sensing was announced and available for preorder this week. Curious to garner peoples impressions of the new iteration. Particularly keen to hear people's real world use case and review of the 1st gen hub, as I always contemplated getting one but missed out on all the black Friday and Xmas specials since I was on the fence at that time.

Also, most importantly, curious to speculate where can we expect some bargains for this?

Interesting re: sleep analysis. On another note, has anyone used the nest hub as a baby monitor for Nanit/ Cubo etc?

    • Actually keen to know if the soli could be used to track baby sleep movements, that would be super useful statistics and notifications

Speaker on original hub is terrible for music, they don't say anything about a new speaker but say '50% more bass' so assume a new speaker, I would guess same sound as nest mini.
sleep analysis being a paid subscription service after 12 months is greedy and ridiculous, they say your data never leaves your device, so that means no processing on google servers, yet they want you to keep paying for for something you already bought once.
    CRAZY

Agreed. I replaced a Google Home with the Hub, and noticed straight away the difference in the speaker. While the screen is good, and using it as a digital photo frame is good when it's not in use, that speaker is just shit lol

They're really good if you have a connected devices and have a android phone.

I have it for controlling; home security (Nest), lights and switches (bunnings), control my TV, use as a bluetooth speaker, use as kitchen timer, for making shopping lists, set a wake up timers, see my ETA to work and what way I should go in the morning, weather, clock etc…

I didnt care for these until my daughter want me to show her magic tricks, I dont know magic but home automation to a toddler is magic.

Like the idea of the Soli inclusion. Dislike that they're lining up to put the functionality behind a subscription for Fitbit. As a Nest product I would've expected it to come under their Nest subscription if any.

Have a couple of the hubs and they're great for the automation side though.

  • I almost commit on a 'cheap' Nest Hub for $80 on Gumtree and then this got announced. Glad I waited. I am going to use this as a bedside clock and smart device.

I will wait and see what the reviews say. What if it picks up my partner's sleeping/snoring/breathing? What if my pets are in front of it? I slept like a cat with 2 hours of purring?
Just don't know how accurate this will be.
