Recommendations 85+ Inch TV for Movies

Hey everyone,

We're looking to replace a home projector setup with a large TV - mainly for Netflix/movies. No gaming at all.

At the moment narrowed it down to either the Sony KD85X9000H or the Samsung Q80, or even the LG LG 86NANO91TNA (but this has been reviewed worse than the first 2).

Any recommendations to these TVs or other options? And whether it's worth waiting another month or two when the newer 2021 TV's are released in-store?

Thanks!

Buy the most expensive new tv you can and watch it drop 40% in price over 6 months

I have the X9000H and it is superb.

Wouldn't touch the LG cos its IPS panel.

I have and prefer the Sony over the Samsung because it has Android OS.

  • I got the 75" x9000h, very good for its price.

  • Would a laser projector and screen be an option?

  • Go the Sony KD85X9000H, for starters it's beautiful (if a little fat), people have either had great or terrible support with Sony and Samsung. For my experience I had three Samsungs in a row which were superb screens but the Smart system got deprecated on each within 18 months of purchase. Then when one developed issues (stripes, during warranty) they refused to fix it …

I replaced all three with Sony's and the mainboard went on one of them five months past the 12 month warranty period, I didn't have to quote consumer laws or anything like that they just sent a tech 48 hours and replaced the main board without any fuss.

    • Also does anyone else wish they made the 9500 in an 85' instead of just the 75' ?

  • At that size I'd be going for an 8k panel.

  • If it's primarily for movies and it's a dark room, you'd really want an OLED.

I feel like an LCD TV will be a step back from your projector both in terms of size, and quality.

Perhaps look at the short-throw laser projectors.

    • Yes, OLED is the best option, chalk and cheese compared to LCD

  • The Q80 65" has dropped in price on the Samsung website in the last couple of days (was ~$2700 now $2400) to very close to the Sony X9000 price. Not sure if its the case for all sizes.
I'm still hanging out for a sale on the Sony…..but I have been waiting since last October, and nothing yet :/

  • Be a true OzBargainer. Buy four frameless 55" EKO and mount them together to make a 110". Total cost $1396.

You will need a video wall controller. They are a few hundred bucks….

I would bet on Hisense Q8 85 inch. See it to believe your eyes.
