I miss the KBs salt and pepper squid.

  • What do you think is the best way is to cook these?

    • +2

Personally, I'd say steam them until they're done then pan fry a little if you want them to crisp up. I'm lazy so I just steam and eat.

Pan fry, then add water and close the lid, let steam for 8 minutes. Still lazy with only one pan to wash, but much better

        • Intriguing. Steaming at that point doesn't ruin the pan frying crispiness?

        • +1

Sounds easy enough. How much water? And you don’t own a steamer or anything?

          • +1

@woka: Half a glass, add more layer if there's none left and it's still uncooked inside!

          • +1

@woka: Not much, 1/4 cup at most.

        • +3

As @andysa said, this is the way :) but because when adding water as the oil will spit. So keep that lid handy and used it like a shield.

          • @griftr: I thought it was only me :))

          • @griftr: oops, i meant "but be careful", not "but because"… unco thumbs typing the wrong thing on my phone :)

      Just steaming is great.

I spray a layer of olive oil at bottom of air fryer and put these on, then spray another layer of olive oil on top. Set 180C for about 7-10 min 😁

I do mine the same method when I can for homemade ones.

      1. Place gyoza in nonstick frypan with lid and add about 2-3mm of water to the pan on medium-high heat.
      2. Steam it for about 8 mins till most of the liquid is absorbed (add a bit more water if it's not translucent).
      3. Lift lid and let it sizzle till water evaporates.
      4. Add about 1 tbspn of oil (I use rice bran, no evoo) evenly over the dumplings, wait for the sizzle for a couple of mins on higher heat and turn when one side is crispy ready. Flip gyozas to get all sides crispy if that's how you like it.

I usually make around 16-20 in a larger frypan as I have dumpling monsters eating kids in my household.

If you are adventurous and have ponzu sauce and Japanse soy sauce, mix in roughly 1 tspn ponzu to 5 tspn soy sauce ratio (I do it to taste), throw in a bit of fresh chilis if you like some heat. Enjoy!

FYI I saw the same items at The Spud Shed a few days ago and their everyday price is similar to this discounted price give or take a few cents. Also the vegetable gyoza and another flavour were the same. $14 something.

When did they increase their RRP? It's used to be around 17 bucks on full price. Its not worth 13.50. I would rather get the one from Aldi which comes for around 8$

I put mine in the air fryer. Love them.

    • Ya tried that too. What is your setting ?

      • +1

10mins at 180 frozen with no preheat.

        • Okie

        • awesome @bigspike only just got an airfryer and was wondering what settings to use for these delicious snacks! How do they turn out? Crispy all over?

          • @griftr: If you like them crispy go a bit hotter for shorter. Experiment.

    • I spray olive oil at bottom and top to keep it moisture

    • I do mine in microwave with water for 4 minutes and then 3 minutes in air fryer @ 200. Comes out perfect every time.

  • "prawn".

Getting more and more expensive. If less than $10/kg then maybe

    • @Michael1983 they come in different sizes. I didn't realise until later and also thought that the price had changed.

  • Out of interest, does anyone know where in Melbourne you can by KB's frozen Onion Rings? Have not seem them at any of the major supermarkets (including IGA, Costco).

  • $22 rrp? Seriously marked up

  • The more expensive it gets, the more upvotes it receives.

  • I'm a heathen so I just boil them.

    • This man has run out of f**ks to give!

      • Exactly. Couldn't be arsed to clean up oil splatters nor a steamer. To the detriment of my taste buds…

    • +1

Mate they actually come out pretty decent even in the microwave. I zap them for 4 minutes with just a bit of water. If I want to get fancy I will put them in an air fryer afterwards for 2 or 3 mins depending on quantity

      • Ooh thanks harthagan, i'll give it a go. You may have just simplified my life even more haha.

  • Man I love this @#!@!@, goes down so well !

  • I reckon their RRP is $16 last year. What a mark up.

  • Just went and bought them from woolies and pan-fried/steamed them. They're very nice, especially with soy sauce
