Good place to buy UPS

I need to get some UPSs. Nothing too expensive - commercial / office grade is ok. To start I have a combination of requirements - at least 2400W over 5 outlets at one place, at least 3000W over 8 outlets at another, and there will be more. Would prefer single units at each place but can live with multiple. So I'm looking for a source that has lots of options, and importantly in stock in Sydney.

Can anyone recommend a retailer / distributor?

  • Computer Alliance on eBay have a good range at reasonable prices. Based in Brisbane though.

I've purchased a couple from them over the years. Fast delivery.

    • Ta. Will look at but Brissy rules it out for now.

  • If you are looking at 2400W or 3000W power in a single UPS then you are moving into the territory of enterprise grade UPS so prepare to spend a bit more. Also make sure you understand the difference between VA and W ratings as UPS manufacturers almost always tend to rate their models in VA.

You can buy refurbished or used large capacity rack UPS dead cheap and replace the batteries and make them as good as new and their power quality is always better than the SOHO units.

If you are planning to use multiple UPS at each location then you should connect these UPSes to their respective loads separately. You cannot and shouldn't t try to achieve the total load capacity by connecting multiple UPS units in parallel. If you are after enterprise grade units then APC and Eaton are the brands you should be looking at.

    • Sincere "thanks". Never thought of "used", would you care to add a link or two for guidance strictly on the basis that this is advice only, all actions after that are solely on the viewer's responsibility.

      • Yes, thank you indeed. Used won't serve my immediate purpose (part of a new installation sold as new do must be new) but it makes so much sense.

eBay or direct from refurbished equipment vendors.
You can find units already refurbished with new batteries sold by ex-datacentre hardware vendors if not find one that suits you in as-is working condition and have the batteries replaced.

        • Thanks again - would appear postage is a killer on a refurbished UPS of a decent VA size (which is to be expected) will have to look further at the whole "used" topic.

          • @havebeerbelywillsumo: Hi mate! Sorry to hijack your post. I am downgrading my office and looking to offload two UPS. I have a HP T1500 G3 UPS and a Powershield Defender 1200. Let me know if you're still looking to get a second-hand or used UPS.
