    Mango is a rad colour!

    • 404 page not found for the more expensive one

  • Do u have the safari in orange

    • Sorry, I don't work at Milligram. What you see on the search result is what I see.

      • It was a trick question cause theres an orange limited edition one thats worth in the hundreds. Lol

        • Those were the first colours that Safaris were released in. Safari Terracota and Savannah.
They re-released those colours this year as part of celebration of 40 years anniversary for the model.

  • Good deal even if for the nibs alone. Thanks OP!

    • My plan is to change the medium to fine nib!

What's special about these pens to be so pricey ?

    • and how do they compare to other pens like Parker?

    • +2

For some people there is no difference and it's all a waste of money. "Bic pens are enough".

For others, it's nice to feel a well built, high quality, made to last pen with a bit of weight to it. And they may be willing to pay for it. Some are willing to pay $20 for a good pen, some are willing to pay $100, some are willing to pay $50,000 or more for a Montegrappa dragon original edition.

Lamy are in general good pens at a relatively low cost.

Somewhere in between them there's the Pilot G2 people too.

I've got 2 Lamy Safari pens, and more Parkers than I care to admit to (modern and vintage). I like them all, for varying different reasons. As has been pointed out, the Lamy fountain pens are a great starting point for someone who is new to them. They are reliable, quite comfortable, and are attractive as well. I personally wouldn't want to write with one for a long time, though. You can get some really expensive Lamy pens, too, just like you can get a cheap Parker, but they can have very individual characteristics about them which makes them feel different. One of my very favourite pens is actually a vintage Parker 45 with a gold nib in broad (as opposed to the less expensive stainless steel), it's buttery smooth to write with and has never once skipped or stopped feeding ink. If you are thinking of dipping your toes into fountain pens then these are a great place to start.

  • Got 3, hope there good!

    • Hi Broden!

  • Great price. I pay $10 just for a refill for the ball point.

  • violet ballpoint OOS

  • +1

Worth it just for the Medium fountain pen nibs. Great price.

  • Any idea if this is in store as well?

  • Great prices!

  • Good price but resisting the urge to buy something (or 3) I don't need!

  • $8.8 shipping to WA - ah nvm see its listed in description

  • thanks for the post, got 4 - 2 ballpoint and 2 fountain

  • mango fountain pen OOS

  • Lamy M16 refills suck. They dry up quickly and aren't smooth whatsoever.

    Okay…like I don't understand why you'd buy a pen for $10….

Nor why you'd buy two (violet and marine in my case) for $28.80, once you include shipping. Another day another ozbargain.

Anyone else not realise they all have blue ink? At first assumed they came with ink matching the pen colour, considering you can buy refills those colours it's
    a fair assumption.

    • +1

Oh no. You really don't want to learn about converters or all the cool types of ink you can fill them with. That path leads to madness. (and more ink than you'll use in a lifetime)

      • I'm listening…

      • That…is the nicest bottle…I've ever seen.

        • There's so many types of ink you can choose from! You can buy ink samples to try out before you commit to buying full bottles.

Why not just buy a BIC for less than $1?
      Save $9

This trend on ozb of people buying stuff they don't need then spreading the word is something I won't even understand. We get you, you just bought something you don't need. Does that make you better, smarter, or else? Do you really think so?

      • +1

I hear you and my brain is splitting in two trying to answer you.

I've been a deal hunter since I was a kid. Knowing I bought something that someone else paid double for feels good. You do need a filter. I have enough money to buy things like, this, but not soo much money I don't regret stupid purchases.

I don't want to kill the planet. I see some of the stuff that rolls in at christmas time for the kids and I shake my head.

Personally I take notes all day long at work and I have been known to spend a good 30 minutes in the pen isle at officeworks, only to hold off my desire and buy the bic.

I will get much enjoyment out of these pens.

        • +2

          Hope you enjoy them.
Just remember - you're only saving if you buying something you need. Otherwise you're just wasting your hard earned cash.
A suggestion, because you answered so nicely. You can get an investment account for spare cash. I use spaceship, there might be more. It's an app in your phone, and you can add money every time you feel like, it doesn't have to be hundreds. $5 or more whenever you feel like is ok.
Watching your investment grow is a satisfaction that lasts over time. You can buy a good holiday with it after some months or years. Or improve your house, change car, etc.
So if some time you feel the urge to buy something just because it's cheap, but maybe you don't really need the item, you can just pass the money into the account instead, and watch it grow. Again, it's satisfaction that lasts.
          Hope it's of use.
          Cheers

that's like saying buy a holden, its the same thing as a Rolls-Royce

It depends what value or enjoyment you derive from writing things down. If it's a pen you'd buy anyway, then you are saving money.

Similar question would be why not buy the 1 ply loo paper, instead of the 2 or 3 ply stuff? Any of them can do the job, but the 2 or 3 ply is probably a more pleasant experience to use.

If I just want to scratch down something for bare necessities, I can use a BIC. If I want to enjoy the writing process, and keep my notes for reference, I'd rather write with something that I enjoy using and will take more care with.

Personally, I have spent far more than $10 or the $55 RRP on a pen, but then fountain pens are a bit of a hobby and there's plenty of other things I don't spend money on.

Why spend more money on more expensive headphones when the ones you get for free on planes produce audible sound as well?
Why spend more money on a more expensive bottle of wine when $5 cask wine also contains grapes and alcohol?
Why spend money on literally anything when there is a cheaper option?

Value does not always equate to cheap, and not every tool is right for the job at hand.
I own a few Lamy fountain pens and they aren't even close to the most expensive pen I own. I am a writer though, and writing with a Bic all day would be like building a house with Kmart hammer and Aliexpress nails.

      • The 4 colour BIC is cheap & flawless. I used one for years until it ran out of ink!

Parker also works flawlessly for me.

        I've had problems with Uniball.

    • If you get it from the shop, they usually are happy to swap over to whatever ink colour you like.

  • Mulligrub?

  • Aquamarine fountain OOS now too.

Anyone found cheaper than ~$8.50 5-pack T10 refills?

    • +1

Unless you're able to price beat "Pulp Addiction" and their price of $4-$5 + $4.50 domestic shipping, then there's no place I know selling for that cheap. It seems cheapest price may be the $8.95 standard in-store, unless you want to give eBay a go.

  • Only Violet Fountain left in stock.

Was able to snag some aquamarines and violet fountains earlier :)

Edit: also fyi they are all only in stock online - the stores have sent the leftover stock from the 2020 Collection as they all stock the 2021 collection now.

…oops… just spent $70 on new stationery!

    • +1

Same lol. I missed this deal too, was OzB'd before I got a chance to buy. But in retrospect I didn't spend another $30 on things I dont really need, so I'm kinda glad they are OOS.

      • oh lol I mean I spent $70 on this deal and other things!

        • Good for you then, catching the deal before OOS!

  • -1

I have refused to pay 60 for a plastic fountain pen, so I haven't tried these. 10 would have been ok but I missed it. I'll just keep getting Chinese ones.
