I thought $940 for this laptop capable of playing most games at 30-60fps seemed a very good deal. What would you recommend instead?

I have a dell g3 with the previous gen i5 9300 and this gtx1650 and paid slightly more than this MSI and I've been blown away by how it just works for nearly everything. 120hz screen is nice too.

What's better than this at this price?

Just because it's an i5 doesn't automatically make it bad or much worse than i7. Current gen i5 could be the same or better than last gen i7. You just have to look closer at the specs. It's an i5-10300H, released last year and it's good.

Yup, unless needing the slightly higher clock speed, or a extras core / couple threads (this is still quad core / 8 thread, ample), this is preferable in a laptop, less battery use.

Ugh, another user who looks solely at 'i3', 'i5', 'i7', 'i9' and nothing else :(

You're the type of person who would think a base model i9 7th gen would better than an i5-10600K

    • Yikes an uneducated individual

If you have American Express you can knock an extra $100 off this MSI GF65 laptop for $1199, both the CPU and GPU are a tier higher.

It's over $200 more expensive even with the $100 off.

      Is it 20% better?

      • +5

        Pretty much.

The GTX 1660 Ti made more headway on the 3DMark Fire Strike test, hitting 11,584 over the GTX 1650's 8,397 (38% increase in performance).

So yes, pay 20% extra but get way more than 20% extra performance in games.

GTX 1650 (non-super) is pretty weak, even weaker than the very old Pascal-based GTX 1060

        • Cool thanks. I haven't had a gaming laptop for maybe 12 years now…
Thinking about buying one just for the tax deduction

Apparently the battery lasts 2 hours. No thanks

      correct, had the GL65 9300H / 1650, didnt crack 2 1/2 hours web-browsing

  • not bad but the 1650 isnt great. would be good for someone who only plays csgo, dota/league or games that arent insanely gpu dependant

  • This or M1 Mac Mini for casual gaming?

  • I ordered one and its pretty decent build quality. Its for my dad so im about to wipe it and put Ubuntu on it. However I wanted to test the RGB keyboard first but couldnt get it working. Its quite annoying that the built in software doesnt control the keyboard and you have to download the Steel Series 3 software. However even after doing that, the software wasnt detecting the keyboard and I didnt get to change the keyboard to different colours.
