(Solved) Best place to buy refurbished phones?

Hey everyone, I'm currently using a Samsung S7 its been a few years since I had this phone, and I might get a new one but this time is going to be an iPhone. Since brand new iPhones are a little bit pricey, I'm looking to buy a refurbished iPhone X or higher but not sure where to buy it from? Can anyone recommend a reliable company that sells refurbished iPhones?

Thanks!

Until recently, Nickos1990 had a couple available on Facebook Marketplace I believe. You may be a little late to get these.

    • Can't find Nickos1990 on fcebook

They're making a joke, which being a member for all of five minutes, you wouldn't have gotten.

I bought a refurbished phone from Mazuma about a year ago. Great service, phone still working well. They replaced the charging cord without any drama when it stopped working after a couple of weeks.

    • Thank you! I'll go check there website and see what they got

  • Merged from Anyone bought from luvyourphone or Phonebot?

checked iPhone X on both websites… they both have a good price but are they legit? or should I avoid them?

Have bought multiple devices from Phonebot, happy with product and service.
Once bought a refurb Samsung S(7/8?) from them with a slightly sticking/non-clicky volume button - they replaced it in store (VIC) without any fuss.

      • Thank you so much, I looked at product reviews website and Phonebot seems to be a good store. However, I won't be buying from them yet since I'm waiting for some more answers.

    • Please use your existing inquiry post for follow up questions, and do not create new post for that.

  • You can check Boost's refurb shop. I've never bought phones from them, so not sure if they're good or not.

Hey everyone, I was going to buy an iPhone 10 from gumtree for about $450 and yea I have to meet the seller in person but this is my first time doing this… What is the safest way to buy a phone from gumtree? Since I'm an Android user, I don't know how to check an IOS mobile. What do I need to check/make sure before I hand him the cash?

    Cheers,

      IMEI is not blocked.
Serial number show's the right model on Apple's website.
iCloud Lock/Find my iPhone is removed.

      • Thank you so much but how can I find the Serial number?

        • get the seller to unlock the phone in front of you and go to setting to get the serial and IMEI.

Factory reset the phone in front you.

Meet the seller at a shopping centre and get one of the phone repair booth to inspect the phone for you. They can tell you straight away whether the screen is original or not, or the unit has been opened or not. Get them to run their diagnostic checklist, which is the one they do after they repair a phone. They will check everything. Probably cost $10-20. Well worth it.

          • @kfcfatfat: what if the phone was already reset and icloud/find my iPhone was already removed by the seller? do I still need to check those IMEI and the serial number? note: I already found a seller but I made an appointment on Sunday…

This is more advice for selling than buying

    • Ask them to provide you with the proof of purchase too. Then if they screw your over by getting apple to lock it, you can go to them and show them the proof

      • Alright, will do if I found a seller!

    • +3

Ask him to factory reset the iPhone in front of you.
Check the battery health at least 80%
      Or
Best to bring a friend who owns an IPhone and know how to check it carefully !

      • got lots of friends who owns an iPhone, might ask for their help.. Thank you!

    • Meet somewhere “safe”.

If you don’t return home on-time, ask your family to call 000.

      • somwhere safe like the mall?

What is the safest way to buy a phone from gumtree?

If you have to ask this, just… don't!

      • I also found some of the phones from cash converters, there's a couple at my area can I trust them?

        • No, don't trust any pawn shop or gumtree sellers. Could be stolen devices, could be scams, could look all fine on the day then few days later phone gets blocked.

Not worth the effort. Seriously, not worth saving whatever money you think you are saving.

          Buy from a reputable shop.

          • @Hybroid: Do you know any reliable/reputable stores that sell refurbished/pre-owned phones?

            • @ginoEND: If it is really bad and not worth it to get a used phone and I should keep away from it… I might be better to save up a bit more and get a brand new one from JB HIFI

              • +1

@ginoEND: The fact that this is your third thread (until it got merged) about buying a used phone means you should definitely keep away from it.

            • +1

              @ginoEND: Boost.com.au

    • Get them to screen shot IMEI and serial and send to you first. Then If ok, recheck when you meet and buy. Check battery life, no icloud account active, cameras work, speaker and mic work. Then factory reset.

If the phone is still set up then get them to turn off "find my iPhone" in settings if this is not done you will not be able to use the phone if you reset it.

If they have reset the device, then show you the phone and it has the Apple iOS welcome screen ready for you to set up then DO NOT give them the money yet, you must put in your Apple ID (so set up an Apple ID before you go to the pickup) and then and only then will be the activation Lock Screen, this does not happen until after you try to sign in. Do not let them leave until you are at the iOS Home Screen.

Activation lock can not be bypassed and you will have a useless piece of junk if it is still enabled.

    • Oh and if Touch ID or FaceID do not work then do not buy as it means the device is very likely compromised.

If I followed these steps, does this guarantee that the phone won't be blocked by apple?
