Posted Facebook Marketplace Buyer Two Phones after Getting Screenshot of Payment. Money Not Received

Hello everyone,

I hope you are all doing well.

I would like your piece of advice on this matter. On Facebook market, I was selling two phones. A lady, named Jennifer B, contacts me and is interested in buying these two phones. She asked for my banking details and she sends me a screenshot of the transfer (OSKO). I never receive the money. On Thursday, she received the package with the phones and I still get no money on my account. I messaged her and she replied straight away “I will call my bank soon and the money is not on my account”. On Friday, I messaged her again to get an update and she left the conversation. And Then, I message her on her profile (Facebook) about wanting to get an update from her or I will go to the police. I have the screenshot of the “transfer”, all of our messaging and her address and her name. Also, I have the proof of sending her the package with the 2 phones including the tracking number. I am using ANZ and she used Westpac. Value of both phones is $383.

I called ANZ and they see NO payment or any transaction. Westpac told me that they cannot help me but I need to go to the police or to the courts with her if she stops replying to me. And another thing is that my sister told me that she has bad experience of waiting 5-6 business days to get a payment made from Westpac.

I would like to hear what you think of what I should do next. Doing some research, I need to report her to the police for stealing and maybe go to VCAT to get my money back. Please if you have any previous experience on a similar scenario or any advice on what to do, share with me.

Thank you for reading my story.

        • You said it that you re definitely the idiot lol Move on!

        • You said it lol move on

          • @Nickos1990: I would but I might miss hearing about more of your 'research' and you calling people 'smart holes'. So sorry you're gonna have to deal with me a bit longer :)

    • What if the OP had managed to decide to ask here before sending, then couldn't because of the time out and then had to send as it would take to long to wait to be able to post and get an answer.

How are people continuously falling for this stuff?!

You never send any item until you receive funds.

One would imagine that's common sense, yet here we are, time and time again…

OP scammed themselves if anything. It's just turning into the latest "I hit a car and have no insurance"….

    Can't fix stupid.

Thank you for being a smart hole, very helpful! Don’t you have anything better to do? I am actually seeking some advice, not what my grumpy grandpa would say to me.

Your grandpa must be a wise man, and worth listening to

The smart holes are many here. Possible Centrelink receiver? Lol

@Nickos1990: You are salty and wont get much support here mate….

@pyramid: There some nice people on here and I did get some help! But there are also many smart holes or people receiving the Centrelink benefits, and thus having lots of free time to comment whatever. I will close this thread soon if possible.

Sorry man, but far out, did you really need someone to tell you not to give stuff away before being paid?

Have you got any cars or property I could buy off you? The cheque is in the mail, I promise.

FWIW, you want advice? You should report it to police and put this down as a lesson. Your phones and money are gone.

        • I agree actually. Lesson learnt the hard way! You never know, I may get lucky and get the money back - fat chance tho

          • @Nickos1990: Oh well, it's expensive but not overly expensive lesson to learn. Scummy people will always exist.

Are you able to track the phones? I did this once when my wife's phone was "found" by someone and he pooped his pants when I showed up.

There is also the option of reporting the IMEI and blocking the phones and lastly, have you tried physically going to the address?

@imurgod: Again, thank you for your input I really appreciate it. I did some research and the address of the property was sold in 2018 and someone is living there now (not sure if the owner or renter). I will try to get the phones to be blocked by the IMEI. Their address is in Moe, which is 2.5 hours of travelling just to get there. Let the police handle it (if they actually do). I have her photo and I will do some digging on her, personally.

              • @Nickos1990: Well that's actually positive.

Personally, I'd drive 2.5 hours on principal but that's probably stupid when you can try getting the local police to go there.

If you get the right police person and you're tenacious, you'll find that they may just go visit them.

@imurgod: At the moment I am very busy with work and family, and for 383$, I cannot justify to get there to “investigate”. I will try to dig more on her as I have 2 photos of her and her banking details. And yes, getting the right police officer is the key when dealing with the police! :)

                  • @Nickos1990: Good luck buddy.

Please come back and update us and let us know how you went.

You got to the front page. Pat yourself on the back.

    • Shut up I did! WOW! I feel proud haha

  • hey

I have someone attempted this scam on me. I don't believe the screenshot is a photoshop. It's too good to be photoshop. I believe how they did it is they schedule the payment for another date. They goes through the payment process, schedule it for 2 days from now, take the screenshot, omit the payment date, cancel the payment after.

    • There's no need to Photoshop anything. In Chrome you can right-click on anything, go to Inspect, and change it to whatever you want. No need to mess around with scheduling payments either. Just send 1 cent to yourself and change the details on the receipt to whatever you want, and you end up with something like this which looks exactly as it would if it were real.

  • if you accept payid, do not send to the money is in your account!

  • Why do people keep doing this?

Your phones are gone, you won't be getting the money, and there is nothing you can do.

Learn, and don't make the same stupid mistake twice.

    • yes and no, but more then likely yes

  • OP has stated that he has received all the information he needed. Thread closed.
