  • is tis ASU stock?

    • +1

AFAIK Digidirect is an authorised Aust Panasonic seller so I guess yes.

      • you are right, Panasonic won't give Cossack for Grey stock.

        • Cashback*

  • 570 for this kit is pretty good, but id want a faster lense for blogging tbh, especially with mft.

Yeah ive got the olympus, great lens.

Yeah crickey with the MFT crop factor, it's essentially a F/7-F11.2 lens. Absolutely brutal

      • Crop factor has nothing to do with light gathering. The f-stop/ISO system of exposure was specifically designed to be independent of sensor size. An f/3.5-5.6 lens is an f/3.5-5.6 optic regardless of format. Depth of field is another story.

        • +1

Welllll…it's complicated, but yeah, f-stop is one of the factors determining how much light reaches the sensor and the intensity of that light. When you mention "light gathering", I think things get a little murky.

Frowny's point probably comes from a number of arguments posed around the web alluding to the lower amount of light captured by smaller sensors in certain 'equivalent' scenarios. I get this. You are certainly throwing information away when you crop, but this doesn't result in a higher f-stop.

At any given f-stop/shutter speed, a larger sensor will gather more light from a particular lens (capable of covering that sensor) than would a smaller sensor. The light is falling across the sensor at the same intensity regardless of size, but the larger sensor is simply capturing that light across a wider field of view. Of course, if you wanted to capture the same scene on different sensor sizes, you would need different focal lengths anyway.

I think a lot of the problems around this topic come when people talk equivalence between lenses. That only really works well for field of view - but the totality of measured photons and depth of field (as you pointed out) are different things.

          • @Banj0: Yep thanks for picking me up on that. I did mean intensity, not gathered. Not sure why I went with the latter.

  • Probably good compact MFT photo camera, sadly it only allows 10 minutes 4K video shot, 20 minutes if doing FHD 1080p…

    • Full HD only 20 mins huh? I did not know this.

Mind you, I don't think I've seen any vlogger/YouTuber recently do a take of more than a few minutes (though maybe they're editing this from much longer takes).

      Cheap for this camera though.

  • Just checked the terms and conditions of the Panasonic Bonus EFT Card promo which states:

“Purchases from duty-free, discounted or clearance eBay sales, parallel import stores and second-hand purchases/retailers are excluded”

So there may be an issue issue claiming the promo unless digiDIRECT supply an invoice with the shipment separate to the eBay invoice, which they haven’t for my last few purchases through their eBay store.

    • They include the hardcopy invoice which you use to claim the rebate (which shows the full value before discount, which is a bonus if you are claiming tax or TRS), don't use the eBay invoice.

  • Would it be a significant upgrade over the G7?

    • +1

Quick look on paper, the G100 is much newer with a higher res sensor and view finder along with a number of modern features, https://cameradecision.com/compare/Panasonic-Lumix-DC-G100-v….
However they are aimed at different markets, the G100 is aiming at vloggers/content creators, whereas the G7 and successors aim at prosumer photographers and videographers who demand higher quality. G7 users would want to upgrade to G8 or G9.

  • How was it compared to OSMO Pocket?

    • different size, no comparison

  • On paper this is a really good price - I do worry you might want to upgrade fairly promptly though. The autofocus on my g7 also left much to be desired
