Find Me a Second-Hand Overhead Projector

I'm chasing an overhead projector. I've looked at FB, Gumtree, and eBay, and not much around. I'm curious if anyone knows of where I might source one from?

Second-hand working is fine, as I'm using it to enlarge artworks onto larger canvases.

Do ex-office furniture places sell them?

Or like, do you have one you don't want?

Inner North Melbourne location preferred, but willing to drive within reason.

  • Can you not scan it and enlarge it on the computer?

      I sure can!

But I want to draw on acetate sheets and project onto a large canvas on my wall.

Like, I could go the computer + digital projector route, but I wish to draw by hand and not on iPad/photoshop.

Draw, scan, project with a digital projector. Job done

        • Trying to keep costs way down for this as not sure how often I'll use it.

          • @Optimist Prime: A digital projector is going to be way easier to find. And probably cheaper, as overhead projectors are hard to find and probably count as a vintage item.

  • Sounds like you need to google with reference to your address to see what office, second hand dealers and auction houses are around you.

Not much around as 55+" tv's have replaced overhead projectors.

    • Yeah, thinking the same. Officeworks selling new ones at $500+ but not many on the secondhand market atm.

And yeah, did a quick google earlier, but mostly just selling desks. Perhaps my key terms weren't accurate enough?!

    Nuh-Ah

Find me a time machine to go back to 1988

    • I'll get back to you…..

    • My teachers used them in high school, I graduated 2005

These are okay, but not great as they only work with a 10cm x 10cm square image at a time and has limited enlargement capability (I have one). An OHP is superior as it has a large original format and, I find, a sharper projected image.
Another alternative; a multi-media projector connected to a PC/laptop etc. Scan your artwork, project the image.

    • By the way, if the ez-tracer meets your needs, watch out for Aldi's art sale, that's where I got mine, cheaper than usual Art suppliers.

Eckersleys is disgustingly priced on all of their goods.

I did see this and it just kind of looks like junk. And as you say, a working older OHP is superior.

I know what I want, hence the post. :)

      • Officeworks had them for special order at one point too. Not sure if still available.

Actual projector plus a chromecast with a phone in camera mode screen sharing to the chromecast?
It won't quite be real time, but pretty close.

    • Price might be beyond me for this setup.

      • Easily done with a secondhand projector.
        I sold my 720p InFocus for $150

I suggest you approach schools and uni's in your area, and offer to take one away if they have one lying around in storage somewhere. If they have more than one that they will give you, take them all so that you can 'harvest' all the bulbs.

THIS is the type of comment I'm looking for. How did I not think of this?!

Legit some with boxes, light source and plastic bags. I have all those things!

      Thanks….will see how I go.

      • Not going to have a crisp or true image

        • I'm ok with that. My use case is hand drawing on acetate in single colour and simply enlarging it. I can correct fuzziness in the live painting once enlarged

    • I legit just made a cardboard version and it works perfectly for my use case. Thanks again mate!
