I know nothing about buying stock and would like to know what you guys use. Ideally I would like to be able to buy stock in different countries (in France more notably). I tried to look around and I'm honestly lost as I don't know what to look for. I am not looking to gamble my money, I just wanna buy shares of a company that I think will go up in the middle run and pretty much leave it there.

Take a step back. Ask yourself what would your investment strategy look like.
The trade fees are something to compare, which will depend on how often you going to buy stock and how long you hold them for before selling.
Some platform comes with analysis and tell you when is a good time to sell based on a survey. However, you may not need to trade on those platforms to access those information.
If you are keen on speculative trades and allow to impulse buy, then those platforms tend to have a higher fee per trade. E.g. CommSec.

Don't use WestPac. They are rubbish. Couldn't place a trade until 10.15 last week.

If you don't look at stocks as gambling you're in for a bit of rude shock.
Yes it's an educated form of gambling, but it's still gambling.
Although it's gambling where a company can dilute you to zero because they feel like it.

That is why they say buy the index. Wall St can slaughter you on an individual stock but over the long term the total market goes up.
Just go buy vanguard index etfs.
