One of Choice's top picks for paper towels (if you follow their recommendations)

From website:

  • Viva Multi Use Cleaning Towel a versatile, absorbent and durable towel ideal for a wide range of cleaning jobs
  • Using unique technology Viva Cleaning Towel has deep wave like channels within the sheet to provide all in one absorbency, thickness and toughness
  • Viva Towel cleans even better when wet, meaning tough sticky marks, dirt and grease wipe away with ease
  • FSC Certified for responsible forest management
  • Length of the Paper Towel; 21cm

For those who prefer Handee Ultra (not recommended by Choice, but I personally have no issue with them) - $12 for 8 double length rolls, which works out to slightly cheaper per sheet.

  • One of the more decent paper towel to which I subscribe to. I prefer the kirkland oversized rolls but they require a membership to costco.

Viva Paper Towel 12 Pack $12

Normal price at Big W is 6 Pack for $6. If you don't want 12…

    • +2

Good price for those who only want 6 rolls and happy to go into the store or in your case have your wife pick it up from the store for you ;)

      • +4

have your wife pick it up from the store for you

        That's the free shipping component…

      • The normal price is $8 but his wife prefers single packs. Gets her out the house.

      • Must consider to include car/ute petrol $$, parking fees and time wasted to travel to shopping centre for same price?
Amazon is Free deliveries for bulky items like Viva Paper Towel.
So just buy what we need from Amazon, instead of buying something else on the way to shopping centre.

Does Amazon get upset & eventually start banning people if they keep doing this ?

      • No idea tbh, get a new account if blocked I guess!

      • If that would upset them then they would have made it minimum two orders per subscription.

        • When you cancel it has an option for … I wanted the initial discount. I don't think they care if people do this.

      • been doing it for years, no issue

I just buy the huge paper roll from Aldi. Lasts me ages, $5, can't beat it!

I have to say that paper towel is one of the categories of products where quality matters. IMHO most of the paper towels on the market are not great. I used to buy Aldi's standard 3-ply Samson paper towel for years, and we used heaps of the stuff, primarily because it tore easily and was not very absorbent (which is just another way of saying that it was not great at its job!). I've also ordered and tried this one before (Viva 12 pack, ordered from Amazon), and it was fairly similar (I assume it's also 3 ply, that's certainly what it felt like, and the Amazon product page is quite useless and doesn't say). Same for Handee, which I used to get at Coles regularly when on special (3-ply, and okay but not great). Tried Quilton Tuffy Paper Towel (which annoyingly you can only get from Woolies) after a family member recommended it (they have 3 young kids and are always cleaning up mess), and I'm a total convert, we use so much less now. It's 4 ply, harder to tear a sheet (you'll see why it's called Tuffy), and quite absorbent. Undiscounted, it costs more (its standard shelf price is $4.30 for 3, so $1.43 each, i.e. 43% more than this as a one-off-purchase or 59% more with a S&S), but I think it more than makes up for it in reduced quantity used. But it goes down to $3 for 3 rolls sometimes (has happened 6 times in the last 9 months according to Prino), and $2.15 for 3 rolls occasionally (has happened 4 times in the last 9 months according to Prino) - when that happens it's both a substantially better product AND substantially cheaper than this - and I'll happily buy 6 to 10 of those 3 packs at $2.15 to stock up (because paper towel is like toilet roll - you will always need it, and as long as you keep it dry, it doesn't go off and can be stored easily, so therefore you should buy in bulk when a product you're happy with is at its lowest price). So personally, I have zero interest in buying that cheap Aldi roll, or in buying this deal. I think buying lots cheaply and using it up faster is less of the deal than buying better and using it slower, thus spending less over time (and it's even better if you can wait for a woolies to do a price reduction) - so that's the actual deal when it comes to paper towels, IMHO :-). Anyway, just my 2 cents, not trying to rain on anyone's parade, and I am not associated with any of these brands or retail chains, just simply relaying my personal viewpoint as a value-focused consumer.
Edit: just read the Choice article, and they're independent, and they also rate Quilton Tuffy as their top performer, so it's not just me, and to me it confirms that it's not placebo given that Choice and I independently came to the same conclusion about paper towels.
P.s. Just for disclosure, I am not associated with Choice magazine either ;-)

These shed loads of paper dust stuff. Worth paying a tiny bit more for a decent brand like Handee in my opinion.

  • Thanks OP, bought two packs.

    did it expire?

      Yep price back up!

  • Thanks i got some last night.

I wish woolworths stocked the double length 4 packs for $8 still, was very convenient to pickup.

Thanks mate. Bought. I am going through this like there’s no tomorrow. Puppy still learning to go outside for a wee.

  • Bought it. Will probably take me 3 years to get through this much paper towel - but I only have one day left in my Amazon Prime trial and I enjoy the deliveries.

  • If you don't want to order online, or have some discounted gift card gathering dust, this the same price per sheet and rated number one by choice :

    • Or if you aren't in a rush, wait for the regular to go 3pk for $2.15. $1.20/100ss vs $1.67/100ss.
