Can Someone Please Explain The Process of Using Car Buyer Agent? Looking for Actual Steps if Going Ahead

Hi, I am looking to get some idea how the buyer car agent works.

If say I engage one, how are the process run?

Call them up, tell them what car you want, they go and do some research and then trying to find a car for you.

Do they find a car locately or do they have the power to find a car in other parts of Australia?
And once they find a car to a price say I like and I want to go ahead, what's the actual process when it comes to pick up? Payment? Warrant if the car comes from another state?
Do you pay the cost of the car to the buyer agent or do you still pay the dealer you are buying from? And what if the dealer is interstate?

Many questions to be asked so it will be good if someone here has actually used one and can share their experiences.

Not really answer any of my specific questions as these types of websites only give you something very general.

Call them. Honestly how is this so difficult.

        • -2

They dont give you all the info. I have called a number of them and all they said to me is all the information is on the website. (not the one you mentioned)

@Aerith-Waifu: Of course they would provide this info if asked, and if they are legitimate. Perhaps I could work as a buyer's agent agent, I will take a few of 5% of the price of the vehicle, and will deal with the buyers agent on people's behalf.

@brendanm: You be surprised, I rang 1 guy and he is all good ok, blah blah, then 4 hours after I asked him he said he got 5 buyers waiting to get the same car. (funny thing at the time i was looking at the 2020 model and there isn't a great market for them, to have 5 buyers waiting to get the same car is a bit of a laugh), and he has been pushing me to sign the deal first before give me much information.

  • I'm sure there is someone you could call, they could answer these questions. I just can't think of who it would be…

    And now we're in March

This is an interesting journey. It's like we're all coming along for the ride while you work out what car you actually want to buy…

Have you even narrowed it down yet, or are you going to enlist the car buying company to find "a car"?

    • Yes all done. Wife is happy with the choice after doing the test drive and ruled out 4 cars.

      Knows exactly what we want:)

      • And what would that be? Are we talking a car that has many around Perth, or very few?

This one, i know its not the most popular brand but this is what the wife wants…………….and i dont say no to that……………Happy wife, happy life:)

          • @Aerith-Waifu: 2021… But you said you're looking at engaging a Used Car buying agent…

            • @spackbace: did I say used car buying agent? apologises if did

              • @Aerith-Waifu: Actually no, that's my mid-arvo reading :/

                Still, a few points:

                • No, they won't source a new car from interstate. It won't be cheaper once you allow for transport, and it becomes too hard basket.
                • Car buyers charge fees, at least to the dealer but sometimes to you as well. The fees they charge the dealer come off their bottom line, affecting the deal you could get if you negotiated directly.

WA has 6 Renault dealers, with only 3 being in the metro area… Car buyer or not, your negotiation power is massively diminished. Low stock levels currently across every brand, and only 3 dealers to talk to on price…

Did the dealer offer you any discounts? Have you hit them with an offer yet?

                • @spackbace: I engaged one of the dealer, not very helpful at all. Full price or no deal is basically what they said.

                  • @Aerith-Waifu: As I said, car buyer or not, your negotiation power is severely diminished right now

              • @Aerith-Waifu: Side note, have you read the Renault Whirlpool posts?

                Holy crap

                • @spackbace: 12 weeks to get the parts???? Holy crap indeed!

I will pass this to the wife………………

                  • +2

@Aerith-Waifu: Surely you had done research on Renault before deciding on one?

                    • @brendanm: I read reviews and read all its features, did a test drive, even spoken to one of the owner (my neighbour has an old Renault Meganne), never thought about the repair. I mean who would be thinking about the repairs when buying a new car anyway? But its good to know, this will mean I will make sure to add loan car to the insurance quotes.

                  • @Aerith-Waifu: typical French parts…
Found some Renault/Citroen/Peugeot OEM parts dealers in Syd.
Dapco in Kingsgrove & EAI in Chatswood.
Give them a ring and see if they deliver interstate if you ever need mechanical parts :)

My (only) experience with a car broker was pretty simple. Just told them what make/model we wanted and with what accessories. They went away and came back with a price. Was refreshing compared to the dealers I'd tried to deal with - most of the dealers wanted me to give them my credit card and an offer: if their boss accepted the offer they'd take the deposit there and then.

  • You know the car you want so call the local dealers and make your offer. See if they take it or leave it… If no good then chase up a buyers agent. Cost nothing to try.
Dont let car yards intimidate you.

    • My experience is that they won't 'Talk Turkey' over the phone, and to get the best price you need to go to the dealership, and show that you are ready to close the deal on the spot.

  • Never trust a car salesman no matter what they call themselves. Sounds like just another car salesman to me. You need independent advice as to the condition and value of the car. Would you trust an “agent” to tell you what house to buy without proper checks?

I had once contacted cars buying agent 5 years back when i was planning to buy C200, they asked all my information and finally asked me what is the best price dealer is offering you. i provided all my information and finally after a week they came back saying they are not getting any better price then what i had got from our dealer as they need to make 5% over the above and finally they mentioned am i intrested with I30 and they can give better pricing then C200.

So not a worth experience using thier services

    • i30 > C200

  • Car Broker…. I contacted a guy in WA. Asked him to look at the purchase of a certain vehicle for me….

Never heard from him back…. and vehicle was sold that day.

He bought it… and scammed me

    • Definitely. Coz there are only two people in Aus looking for a car at any time.

Do you know who they sold it to? How do you know there wasn’t a person sitting in the dealership paying a deposit while you were calling the broker.
