Whats AU RRP for this? Given all the price inflations im not sure whats good vs what it should be

  • Pretty good considering 5600x have been going for $500 but not needed for majority of people.

The Ryzen 5 3600 from ggtech365 is also slightly cheaper than HT at $254.15:

    • Yeah, I am self kicking since I ordered 3600 from Harris Technology a few minutes ago :(

  • aahha dang just got tomahawk off centrecom yesterday for 319

Quite a few people online saying these 5800X CPUs run very hot, to the point they think there's manufacturing problems with them.

    • I usually have 50-55C in games with water cooling. Not so hot I would say

    • Check out this video from AMD where they suggest that due to the precision boost algorithm, Zen 3 chips are designed to go up to 90-95 degrees and still considered to be within normal operating range.

I rock a NH d15… and it hits 80 in benches. It's a hot chip IMHO.

Zen 3 chips boost algorithms basically adjust their voltage and overclock to keep it around 80c under load. Therefore, the better your cooling, the higher the boost, the better the performance, the hotter the chip.

80c is not hot for a CPU at full load at all, it will keep itself in that temp range to give you maximum performance.

        • Unfortunately people need to do a little reading on the maximum temperature supported by Zen 3 and also how the unique chiplet architecture is structured on the chip. People treat these chips like they are monolithic and apply a little blob of thermal paste onto the heat spreader, then complain about temperatures. You need to apply the thermal paste either where the chiplet is located or evenly across the heat spreader. I have a 5800x and applied Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut evenly, before applying my Scythe Fuma 2 cooler.

Coupled with CashRewards 5% Choice GC offer makes it even sweeter!

Really tempting to upgrade my 3600 but I haven't felt my computer being sluggish at all with the 3600 so I think I'll wait…

  • +1

Do you guys reckon pick this up or wait for AMD to release their mythical 8 core 16 thread 65 watt 3700 successor?

  • Damn this is cheap. Paid one from OCUK earlier this year for $646 :(

  • Wow amazing…glad I held off buying over the weekend. Done!

  • Thanks OP! Amazing deals - Picked up the tomahawk and a 5800x! Bargain!

  • Even at this price the CPU is maybe 35% faster (all cores) or 20% faster (single core) than a 3600 but more than double the price.

You're paying that new car premium for this.

    • Sadly, with Ryzen 5000 there’s nothing to replace the 3600 or 1600AF for performance value. Laws of diminishing returns means that you just have to suck it up if you want that little bit better.

And if you already own a 3600, the upgrade path is fraught with even more non-sensical choices. The saving grace is that you won’t have to upgrade your motherboard in the majority of cases.

    • Price per clock and value is lower but performance is undeniably better. Thing is, this product doesn't make the 3600 go away - if you want absolute bang for your buck go 3600, if you want better performance go 5800. Both can go on most of the same motherboards so pick your poison.
