Car audio installation

Howdy, people.

I've got an amp, splits with tweeters and a headunit (plus wiring kit) to be installed.

I refuse to go to JB because they're massively over-priced and they've got no idea what it means to do a good install job without breaking something. (Last time it was a mirror :/ )

Anyone know any good auto-elec's/car audio installers who do a good job for the right price in Melbourne?

Thanks.

  • why don't you DIY? what car is it? all you need is the wiring diagram of your car's stock head unit and try buy the wiring harnesses that will fit. It is a bit frightening at 1st, but when you finish, you'll get a sense of accomplishment. The hardest parts of the installation is trying to thread the wires into nooks and crannies…once done, you've got the easy bits left.

I will be doing mine soon - when all my audio gear arrives.

    • Agreed. Some car are easy to install. Some are hard. Check on forums before you go to those installers

    • It's a 2001 Mitsubishi Magna Sports. I'm too scared to give it a crack myself. I don't want to cause any electrical damage :(

      • those magnas are a doddle, I did my 2002 sports myself. Get the Aeropro harness (eg. from supacheap) to connect your head unit to the car wiring. You pop off the plastic front dash panel and the head unit is in a metal cage thing held in with 4 screws. Look on google for how to pop out the plastic bits without breaking the clips. It really is simple.

  • Anyone know someone who does this in Sydney? thats cheap i just want a head unit done

    • Head unit shouldn't be hard to install. There is a place at Cabramatta that does it for $50. My friend installed there. No problem at all
Or you can go to http://www.soundmaster.com.au/ at Granville. They do it for $80. Last time I checked

    • I went to doran pro audio.
      http://www.doranproaudio.com.au
      But that was ages ago.

      Might be worth a try

      • Website looks bad compare to soundmaster

  • $70 to $80 is about the standard rate to install a head unit. Plus kit cost, i.e. pocket to fill the hole if your car has double din unit from the factory.

If you are spending $80 for installation, you better get a decent unit. Otherwise learn to DIY as suggested above.
