As per title. Bought one for my partner. I paid more recently for a 64gb refurbished so I believe this is a good deal.

Shame no peach lilac or blush lily
Another phone with no SD card slot.
Also no floppy disk or tape drive either…
Expired? I'm seeing 495 through the app
Same :|
I have this very phone - bought new on eBay last year - and it's great
The colour is horrible but easily solved with a decent Spigen case
Usually when any really good phone is marked down, the TCO is still way too high because it's got for a shorter period of time before updates cut out. The Pixel 5, had I seen the $749 offer, I may have pulled the trigger, but now it needs to be lower than that to make the deal; it may get lower towards the end of this year, but it will then be even close to the cessation of security updates.
Can't really compare the Pixel 3XL to the Pixel 5 though. The Pixel 3XL (and Pixel 4) were flagship levels whilst Pixel 5 was err.. mid range with mid-range pricing.
Buggah. Need a new phone for my missus and this would of been perfect.
Used iPhone would be far better, just a little more money. Otherwise pixel 4a.
You must love your missus to give her a used phone. What a catch!
Seriously?!?!
The idea is to save money and get the missus what she needs at the right price, not any price and secondhand may sometimes be the right option no matter how much you love her.
@affinity: She needs a phone that is about to cease receiving updates? Is that how much you love your partner? Get her one of the worst performing pixels of all time? Awww so much love. Hey honey, i bought the cheapest phone i could find for you, it has terrible reviews too.
@onlinepred: You've obviously misunderstood me.
I think it is best to get value for money, but security updates are very important, especially for those less technically inclined; if they are technically inclined, then they might understand the risks and be able to manage said risks.
My main problem is an older phone will likely cease getting updates too soon and that makes it a dud deal to start with. It has nothing to do with spending too many dollars or saving a dollar. I would not buy a paper weight device and that's what older devices become if they are past security updates. And value for money is greatly lost if the device is close to being without security updates.
@affinity: Ah cool, agree with you there!
Wtf you on about? It has 3 years of updates still, it will actually last and performs 10x better than the pixel 3 in specific. I bought my partner a new phone to maximise longevity and their experience of a phone that actually performs well…….i would never buy a phone with only months of updates left and has been regarded as the worst pixel of all.
Each to their own though
I'm still happy with my Pixel 3 XL clearly white 128gb, recently the finger scanner hardware has been playing up so Google has authorized an RMA. They are still $1500 on the website (got mine for half price then price protected claim for $588 a last year).
Always worth buying direct from Google for the 2y warranty and easy replacements. Actually was thinking of getting the Pixel 5 and selling the new replacement, surely the camera would be as good or better? Nothing wrong with the Pixel 3 and I usually skip a model (the 4 wasn't worth the upgrade IMO and no fingerprint scanner).
Just FYI it will go through Google anyway. I bought from JB and went through Google support.
Also the 4xl is a better phone than the 5 imo
Oh right, good to know. Not much point buying from third party then, they won't hand you a new one over the counter like Apple.
Had a quick search on the pixel 4, very minor upgrades vs the 3, some things worse (no fingerprint scanner which is supported by all apps and banking etc).
Well perhaps should get the 5 first, transfer from this phone and reset and test. Wasn't willing to do a reset but the issue is intermittent and works most of the time to be honest so not sure they can replicate it. The second owner Wouldnt take advantage of a 2y warranty but easier to sell I guess
The 4 had increase in ram, cameras, face Id and gestures. Imo it was the last good pixel. Pixel 5 has less features, slower CPU. 4 is faster than the 5 too. The 4xl is still a great phone. Obviously 1.2 years old now
@onlinepred: That's fair. If you had The 4 you wouldn't upgrade to 5, similar with 3 to 4. No fingerprint deal breaker and they're still$1200 . I could always wait for the pixel 6 to upgrade given I've got cases and screen protectors
@G-rig: From 3 to 4 it's a 100% upgrade, once you realise you don't need to touch the fingerprint sensor, and just be using your phone, you realise how bloody convenient it is. My finger every now and then goes to tap the back, but before i even move the phone has unlocked through face Id. I've given up on pixels. Gone iPhone haha. Keep an eye out for deals on pixels for family and friends though
@onlinepred: Yeah Fair enough, each to their own, tested face unlock with laptop's not really a fan. You'd be putting in pins a lot more with unsupported and banking apps. Lot of reviews say the pixel 5 is overall a better design and phone but you wouldn't bother upgrading any of these for just one generation.
Agree the 12 Pro is probably the best but not getting into apple devices nor want to spend 1700$. One day lol.
The 3xl is actually working fine just can't be bothered wiping it unless upgrading. Probably the time to upgrade now while still worth something and before the 6 comes out.
@G-rig: Laptops hardware is entirely different to the phone. It's inferior in ever way even compared to iPhone X.
Agreed pixel 5 appearance is better, the earpiece is really bad for phone calls though as a sacrifice for aesthetics.
Yep my p2xl was replaced 3 times, and ran out of updates in November. Was getting slower and slower, so buggy. My S10 replaced with s21. I'm just suck of Android. It's a resource hog with limited life and performance. I bought an iPhone xs to test, and the thing flies, so much faster than my work pixel 5, or my s21. Xs is over 2.5 years old, still has 2.5 years of updates, and still a great phone. It's crazy.
Bought the iPhone 11 pro 256g for $1280 with vouchers from JB.
@onlinepred: My pixel 2XL has been running like a dream for 3+ years. Photo quality still up in the top 5%.
Most have 94 apps installed on these old phones and are amazed with the performance on new phones with 7 apps….
@poxy001: What other phones have you had to compare against?
@onlinepred: Don't break the screen on that iPhone 11 Pro, you are looking at $439 from Apple just to fix that!
Something that not a lot of people know about Apple ….
- if you take the screen off two identical model iPhones and swap them, then neither will work!
- the serial number of the screen itself MUST be programmed in by Apple to allow the screen to function. It's such a pity, right to repair problems have a lot to be answered for here. Imagine if Apple actually cared for their customer and not the pure dollars they can make from them; their balance sheet would be far greater still if they did (excepting the iSheep that will buy anything Apple at any price people of course).
@affinity: I wouldn't replace a screen with a third party one anyway, I just love the fact I can go to a store and get the work done. Replacing the S21 ultra screen was nearly $600 so really much of the muchness.
FYI we got a third party screen that was not an apple one put in my mums old XS and had no issues, it was infact an LCD instead of OLED which is crazy haha, was only $280 to.
Calling anyone an iSheep is pretty immature, it's just a phone. Assuming any company isn't in it to make money is naïve. We know that Apple iPhones are some of the most durable on the market by a fair bit, they have the most premium build materials and internals more often than not too. So you really are getting what you pay for. That and the whole 5 years of support which android can't do at this stage. So I would say Apple does care about their users, much more than Google does that's for sure.
@onlinepred: Yes, well I just wished they were more keenly priced; that's the greatest problem; but that is true also of other very highly priced flagship models. At least Apple provides longer term updates.
@affinity: iPhone 12 at $1400 without discount is pretty damn good imo. iPhone 12 mini is damn good value too
@onlinepred: iTunes, yuk
@G-rig: Haha yep! Although never used it, don't think i ever will.
@onlinepred: Yeah fair enough, face recognition only would be annoying in a pandemic if you are wearing a mask. Anyway the features of each model are good in their own rights.
Any new phone with plenty of space would feel Fast, probably worth wiping them from time to time and getting rid of stuff not needed
Those se iPhones are good, smaller size. Didn't realise how much smaller the pixel 5 is than the 3 XL, even though have a genuine case on. Shouldn't matter is the screen is slightly smaller if it goes to the edge. Not looking forward to speaker quality having it behind the screen but don't even talk on it much lol
@G-rig: Yea I actually found that I prefer entering my code when I am wearing a mask, compared to all the mis readings and issues with moisture on fingertips which was fare more often. I tell you, once you use it you won't go back. I was a naysayer also.
Is it just me or do the specs look better on the pixel 3 XL vs pixel 5? Guess it was a more expensive handset or the 5 was made to a price?
I think up until the 3, Google were trying to compete with flagship phones, then they realised their market was better suited to the 2nd tier (eg the $1000 range rather than the $1400 range). So expect a some compromise for those things that most people don't need.
Yep, most people don't need for performance for 4 years etc. They don't notice things like lag, slowdowns, screen refresh etc
Everyone notices the lag when taking low light photos with Pixel5 as opposed to Pixel 3. PIxel 3 has a dedicated chip, Pixel5 doesn't and takes much longer to process. One assumes that chip must have been expensive to produce
@bobvegas: Haha yep, sorry I was trying to be sarcastic. Yea if I take a burst photo, my pixel 5 grinds to a halt. I can only imagine how bad the performance will be in 2-3 years, as even my wifes old P4 was slowing and stuttering.
Yep, most people don't need for performance for 4 years
Most people don't own phones for 4 years, the average is less than 2. So if you buy a slightly cheaper device you can replace it more often and stay fresh.
They don't notice things like lag, slowdowns, screen refresh etc
They don't if they are replacing them regularly, which a significant portion of the market do.
@1st-Amendment: Well yes, if you need to buy cheap phones every 2 years or an expensive phone every 5 is up to your personal values. Buying an $800 every 2 years or a $1400 phone every 4 years. Buy a cheap phone now that lags and stutters, and will only get worse over 2 years, or buy a phone that performs very well now and very well in 2 years.
Yeah this makes sense, rather pay less and have something almost as good. The performance of both varies in different areas. Burst pics aside would it be worth buying a Pixel 5 or keep a new 3 XL, future updates ram+cpu speed maybe worthwhile on the 5. Don't mind the notch personally, some people don't like it. Either way it's still a camera phone, a point and shoot or iPhone 12 Pro would still be better. Cheers
Does lineageos support banking apps or any custom rom?

I'm pretty sure software and security updates for the pixel 3 and 3XL run out in late 2021.
