Energy Efficiency - Inverter Compressor vs Regular Refrigerators

Does anyone know why the inverter compressor Refrigerators seem to have the same Energy ratings (3 Star) as the regular non inverter refrigerators.

Inverter Compressors were supposed to consume less energy do to the variable speed DC motor as opposed to stop and start cycle of regular AC motor compressor

Here is my guess. Although an inverter is likely more efficient than duty cycling a compressor, the thermal loss of a fridge is very low due to relatively good insulation so it doesn't make much difference because the duty cycle compressor doesn't actually turn on very much to maintain temperature (unless you open it a lot).

    • That would be one explanation. However I fail to understand why manufactures would cheap out on insulation.

I think the likely explanation is that inverter energy savings is a hype and highly exaggerated

  • My inverter fridge is rated 4.5/6 stars, so not sure why you only see 3. maybe it's based on your price range filter perhaps?

    • I know we can find 4 star inverter fridges; similarly you can also find 4 star non inverter fridges.

I see a lot of inverter fridges to be 3 star including LG and Samsung
