Saw this in store today and though it was great value for the money. Have seen Officeworks offer similar desks upwards of $200.

EDIT: Browsing Officeworks out of curiosity and found this almost identical desk for $68 - http://m.officeworks.com.au/mt/www.officeworks.com.au/retail…

Looks like I'm gonna use my gift cards.

5 minutes till countdown and you're making OZbargain posts.
    Now that's dedication.

      A true OzBargainer.

It's still 2011 by standard tine anyway :) fake countdown happens every year in all states except QLD lol

Depends on your timezone … here I have 3 hours to go .. your clearly 5min from 12pm so whats your excuse?

    • +3

To be a hardcore bargain hunter in 2 consecutive years straight. Great start to 2012. :)

The table from Big W is 40 kgs, almost twice as heavy as the one from OW. I guess the metal tube for the frame = better quality?

      • +1

Drinking and posting? The way I read it is the table can have up to 40kg sitting on it, not that the table weighs 40kg :-)

        • Yep, BigW is max load, OW is package weight.

        • +8

ahh.. i blame it on this.

Would be easier to compare when we know the weight of the table from BigW and the max load for the one from OW. Guess i'll pop in both stores to check them out.

cant i just pick it up from bigw and not pay for the delivery?

  • So tempted to buy this! Can I pick this up at the store?

  • Can't decided between the officeworks & bigw one, I'll probably be putting it in the corner of my room since it's a small room so I'm leaning towards the OW one, but the bigw can hold more weight (computer+monitor is probably about 10-15kg).

    HELP ME OZBARGAIN

$40 delivery for bigw so unless I can collect it then OW wins :/

    • Just picked mine up at Stocklands Wetherill Park. There was about 25 stacked up boxes.

      • 25? More like 10.

  • Which store did you went? Is it in the package or assembled display sample?
Very similar to the OW one, even used the OW bookshelf on the side in the ad

  • +1

Yes, you can pick up the desk at a Big W store. It comes unassembled (in a box).

  • Apparently the glass has a ~40Kg weight limit. Does anyone know if this figure is for wight spread over the whole desk or just a small area?

Edit: Was referring to the BigW version.

    • +26

Yes I'd like to know too. I have a 39Kg steel pyramid that I wanted to balance upside down on the desk.. should be OK right?

      • LMAO!

      • In your case I would suggest not buying this desk…

Anyway, out of interest I weighed the items which I would prefer to have sitting on my desk (don't want on the floor due to dust/cats). Together my PC, Monitor, Microserver and speakers I have already ordered came to ~41.5Kg and that's not counting the extra weight I carry on my current desk such as textbooks and so on. I still don't know if they got the figure from the glass area as a whole, or it's for each panel or what. If it was per panel I could probably spread the load evenly to avoid damage to the glass.

Were gonna need a bigger boat! .. i mean desk

        • +1

yes, loading 40Kgs in a concentrated area on a glass surface is a good idea. Oh wait, common sense dictates otherwise.

WIll probably have poor fit and finish at this price

  • the height is only 74CM - isnt this a bit low???

Also can this desk be reorganised into 2 rectangular desks instead (ie. without the round corner bit)?

    • Average workstation desk height is 70-75cm which is an ergonomic standard.

      • thanks Ace, do u know if this desk be reorganised into 2 rectangular desks instead (ie. without the round corner bit)?

    • I bought one of these yesterday, you dont need to add the corner bit if you dont want, and keep them seperate

  • As an alternative, the Vika Amon can be bought from Ikea for $65 in total. (Vika Amon Tabletop + 5 x Vika Curry Legs - http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/50178798/#/501787…) It's not tempered glass like this one, but possibly more practical if you plan to have a big monitor. (The curve where you sit on has about 100cm of distance from the corner, which is plenty of room for the monitor and keyboard). Plus, you can extend it by pairing two tabletops together. Doesn't look too bad really.

  • Some optical mice don't like glass, but it might be ok being frosted.

    • +3

How would a frosted mouse work better? :)

      • Yuk, yuk, yuk. Chump :-)

    • Use a laser mouse / mousepad.

    • vote for your dedication & not a bad price

Has anyone looked at one of these two desks at the store or own one? I'm curious to know the quality difference between the two. Just on aesthetics alone i think the BigW desk looks much better.

    • Curious about this as well.

  • Thank you for the post! New chair/desk on the way. Cheers.

  • went to bigw to look at it today. The table is really heavy but yet small. the corner bit is seems waste of space. you can easily prefer a normal desk but bigger. I am not vote for buying this.
