Can’t decide on what grass seeds I should plant. What would be good for kids to play on?
I don’t like the running type of grass.

I think Woolies are giving out free seeds with your groceries.
Free is Free, this is OzBargain ; )

No grass seeds.
Depends on where you are located, what your soil is like, and how much sun it gets but generally a good mix of seeds with plenty of Perennial Ryegrass is something to aim for.
Couch, Buffalo, and other runner grasses are usually better wearing but need to be regularly mowed to keep under control and looking good.
well the best for kids to play on would be buffalo, but thats a serious runner
I’ve got kids but definitely can’t be a runner as it will invade our garden beds around the yard. Seems like there it no options if it ain’t the running type.
Buffalo isn’t to bad as a runner. The runners are on the surface and reasonably easy to trim off around the edges.
Go to the parks and see what the kids like. Once you find something they like take photo's and try to find what type of grass it is.
Parks are typically the cheapest or toughest grass available, particularly for kids playgrounds.
Parks vary allot where I am, from cheap kiku to buffalo to bits of this and that. So it is a goof idea as there are allot of variety to check out.
I never have much luck with grass seeds…. The weed seems to invade the lawn faster than the seed. You should try the roll on square cut grass
Dont plant seed at all, buy turf. Better yet visit a garden centre and see the different types of grass in person; let the kids walk on them, touch them and understand which ones they like.
I just laid my turf in a new build and went for Sir Walter Buffalo. Main reason is that I have a large dog and friends with lots of kids and the staff mentioned that buffalo would be best for them due to the fact it’s self repairing.
I must say it’s incredibly soft and nice to walk on barefoot!

Some of my former lovers have said that about me too.

nah, Kikuyu is heaps better than buffalo when kids and dogs are around. It is indestructible! Besides, Kikuyu also has runners underground.
Runners underground aren’t a good thing. It makes it a lot easier for the grass to invade other areas.
It depends, runners underground make the grass stronger for scalping. I also have root barriers around my garden beds.
Second that. I got Buffalo and my neighbor got Kikuyu. Their Kikuyu comes under the fence and invades mine constantly. I mean constantly. That has been a PITA. It runs everywhere and is extremely hard to control, based on my experience.
Northern Lights is always a favourite, and Sour Diesel and Hindu Kush are making a comeback this season.
Yeah.. and Jims mowing just spun off the mary jane sub franchise for maintenance..
ok then don't plant a running type of grass.
