Xbox Series S/X HDMI Audio Extractor Query

Looking around for an HDMI Audio Extractor that works well with the Series X or S, I currently use a Digital to Analog converter for my Xbox One which I run into the Line-in port on my PC to hear both devices through my headset, my DAC is starting to die anyways so buying an HDMI Audio Extractor right now would be great.

My current monitor is an ASUS VP247H 1080p 60Hz display with HDMI 1.4, I'm planning to upgrade it next year but I'm fine with 1080p for now, any Audio Extractors that have barely any lag or whatever? no budget.

Looking at these:

Why not just use the analog audio out on your monitor?! The green one in this picture

Specs and the icon below the jack in the photo suggest its an audio input only, not output. That model doesn't appear to have an audio output jack

    • I've tried that years ago, it's why I went with the DAC in the first place because it didn't work.

  • Do the Series S|X have optical audio out like the prior generations? That'd be the easiest access.

Alternatively, a cheap 1080p monitor that DOES have a line-out port might actually work out cheaper! I've got like three of these style monitors in my shed - I'm sure they're a dime a dozen refub online, and you can continue to use it later (which isn't always the case with a HDMI extractor; it might stop working in later HDMI revisions).

Of course, a 4k monitor being your end goal will also help your needs now - but obviously is a bigger captial investment than a spare 24".

    • Honestly, I'm fine with my monitor for now as 1080p or 4K I really couldn't care.

If the Series S/X had optical audio that would have been great, but they did remove it.

  • If you buy S/PDIF in soundcard for your PC (so TOSlink aka optical) you can recieve 5.1 surround from the Xbox into your PC.

You can then play this directly to PC headset soundcard through "Listen to" on the optical in so that you have virtual surround in your headset rather than stereo/stereo mix.

Or you can play it to EqualizerAPO and choose whatever virtual surround algorithm you want if you don't like your headset soundcard algo.
