    Great news

    Neat.

time to return my unopened copy to big w from the boxing day sale. thanks man

  • is this part of playstation plus for march ?

    • +11

Nah seems to be completely free to keep forever. Sounds like they'll have a free game every month for 4 months.

    • +3

More of an insomniac promo, in time to get people playing / replaying it and drum up more interest in Rift Apart.
Happy to add it to the library, I never did finish getting all the golden bolts before selling my copy.

  • +19

Already free through the PlayStation Plus Collection for those lucky enough to own a PS5.

    • +1

will they add more game content to PS + Collection?

      • +1

Seems Yes. I just checked just now there are 21 free games already

        • +3

They haven't actually added anything since Day 1 though so it's unknown.

          • @Hybroid: Unlikely, I think it was just a one-time thing to appease fans due to the lack of games at launch (or to make them happy and say thank you depending on how cynical/optimistic you are lol).

    • +2

Last time they did not allow you to claim the full licence if you already had the game via PS+.

      • +2

Looks like that’s still the case. Unless it automatically happens in the background. Stupid if you ask me.

  • +1

Do you need ps plus for this?

  • +1

    Delighted to hear πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

  • +2

Awesome. I presume you can download and keep on a ps5 too? Ie rather than the PS plus version on the collection.

    • +2

Yes, you can, 99.9% of PS4 games work on PS5.

  • +4

R&C has already been a PS+ game, which I believe means that those that "bought" the licence for free as a part of PS+ will likely not be able to purchase this new, non PS+ affiliated, licence.

I've heard of similar situations occurring.

Apparently this issue can be fixed by contacting Sony customer service and asking them to remove the PS+ licence. Having never contacted Sony customer service I don't know if that's a simple thing to do or not.

    • -5

How annoying. I guess I plan to be a PS+ member until I die or Sony goes under.

      • +8

        thats inline with sony's plan

      • -3

the developers/company have to eat.. they aint doing a charity business.. geezzz

        • -6

Yeah, I'm sure they're struggling with their $79 million in revenue.

Also, what's the point of your post? It's irreverent.

          • -1

@RocketSwitch: same back at you….. nobody wants to know how u feel..

Corporates need profits to reinvest into the cycle again for future developments.

            • @ruztynail: Again what's your point? This was free for PS+ and now free to own? What are you on about?

My point was, that it doesn't matter because I would be PAYING for PS+ for life? If you're going to talk about feeding devs, I own all consoles and have a huge library that I pay for, even if I don't play the games. So save it.

              Do you understand?

          • +3

            @RocketSwitch:

Yeah, I'm sure they're struggling with their $79 million in revenue.

At the risk of incurring your wrath with my pointless comment:

Revenue is not the same thing as profit…

            • -1

@brotherfranciz: Yes I know, but I was inferring that they are okay, they will eat for the rest of the week at least.

      • +1

If you are not an active PS+ member (i.e. elapsed membership), you will be able to purchase it.

Tell Sony to transfer all your remaining PS Plus months to me…. :-)

        • lol, I need to eat too, not a charity LOL

    • +2

Contacted Sony PSN support online, they cannot remove it from the subscription. So if you previously collected the game from PS+, you won't be able to get the game for free (unless your subscription expires some time in March).

    • +4

Like you I already had this from PS+. I just opened the PS App on my phone and in the PS Store section I was able to "re-purchase" it from the PLAY AT HOME section. So hopefully this means I have the free non-PS+ version? Not sure.

      • Thanks for this. Looks like Sony got this one done right. It looks like the browser supports the same option as well so it can be purchased.

        • Could you point me in the right direction on how to find the "play at home" section on the web version? I can't seem to find it.

          • @tebbybabes: Just an update, the "Play at home" section has now splashed on my desktop browser and I have successfully added Ratchet & Clank. (I've also redeemed this prior via PS+)

  • Thanks OP, free is good.

  • +6

Wish they would add a 60 FPS option for PS5, going back to 30 FPS games hurts my privileged eyes :p

    • +3

It's hard isn't it? I tried to play a few 30fps games yesterday.

      • -8

Devs needs to eat not a charity, when they finish eating, they will make it 60 FPS.

        • +3

It’s Insomniac, they eat quite well don’t worry haha. It’s quite an easy job assuming the engine allows it. If it was made on a 30fps focused engine, then I understand if it never happens.

          • +1

@Ashkan: They eat ok in between 17hr crunch sessions haha.
Was programmed for ps4, before pro was on their radar so like you said, 30fps was probably what it was set for.

        • +3

          πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Oh man this is hilarious - you've been telling others above that their comments are irrelevant and yet your comments are the ones being marked as 'offtopic'…

          🀫

          • @brotherfranciz: I don't see it, just negs? Which I don't get also. I inferred that, it's annoying you cannot add the game to own as opposed to having the PS+ licence. And all of a sudden it went to devs need to eat, it's not a charity, like wtf, am I missing something???

    • +2

soon very soon.. give em some time..

      • -7

They need to eat right? Once they finish eating

        • +1

          LOL. you're funny mate… cheers.

    • +1

it's funny since it's the only main ratchet and clank game thats not 60fps, the ps2 and most of the ps3 games were 60fps

  • What's the easiest way to claim without actually having to download the game as I already own a physical copy?

    • +5

add to library via desktop or mobile app

    • +1

You will need to download another copy. If you don't, even if you claimed it digitally, you will still need to put the disc in. This is one of the annoying things about the way Sony does things. Save games will work, but you need to download the digital version (as it is a different license). I wish Sony can implement it the same way as Microsoft on this (check digital license first, then fallback to disc license, rather than 2 separate versions).

You can try on the date where it is available. However, I do find I need to remove the downloaded copy for physical disc, otherwise I can get a bit confusing (otherwise there will be two icons / two copies).

The other one is there is no easy way to purchase this for free if you previously collected it via PS Plus or PS Plus collection (PS5) and you have an active subscription. I get it was to prevent people from accidentally buying something they already kinda own via PS Plus, but it gets annoying when you try to claim it free. However, Sony does let you purchase it if you have a elapsed PS Plus subscription.

      • Are you serious? Do we need to download the free game a sap for it to work or can we still download it at a later date?

        • +1

You can download later if you want to play it later. However, for someone who owns a physical disc copy of the game (and already installed it on the PS4/PS5), to get the benefit of not needing to insert the disc, download the digital license version of the game is needed.

  • +1

100% a publicity plug for Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart but a nice gesture none the less.

    • -6

I know right, especially now it's free, how are they going to feed themselves?

    • Sony did this for Uncharted 4 last year (or was it the year before, can't remember). I collected 3 copies of Uncharted 4 digital versions (3 different regions, AUS, USA, SEA) for free.

      • Yeah, it does pop up often.

      • They did it for Uncharted 4? I know they did it for the Nathan drake collection last year.

        • Sorry, you are right… was the ND collection. I think UC4 was just for PS Plus.

  • +2

I'm going to have a guess and say that the next free game is already on the PS+ collection.

    • Still incredible considering the desert that is Xbox. For $80 per year you get PS Plus' monthly AAA titles and 21 games on the PS+ collection.

      • +3

lol, what? both xbox and playstation have good games

  • I used to own a PS4 and had an account but don't have the console anymore. is there a way I can get this deal using the phone app or something, in case I buy another PlayStation down the line?

    • +1

Once the deal is live, should be able to claim it by logging onto your PSN account online and clicking on the deal link in the OP.

      • +1

        It's live now.

    • Yes phone app or even just login on the website and go to the ps store

  • +1

When I click add to library I just get,

Something went wrong. Try again later.

    • Same. Been trying a few times now…

      • Servers are overloaded because everyone's trying at the same time. Try again later and will be fine. Happens every single time…

        • I tried now and got it

      • Try after disabling AD Blockers

    • It won't add to US based PSN accounts. Need to have an AU PSN account.

      • Try again after 3pm Aussie time.

    • +5

      This ALWAYS happens to me.

      Log out.
      Log back in.
      Job done.

This always works for me. Sadly.

      • +1

This advice sounds absurd… but it worked for me

  • +1

    Awesome game. Thanks for sharing!

  • +4

For those who collected this game via PS Plus or PS Plus Collection previously. Try the following link:

    https://store.playstation.com/en-au/category/83ccec1a-8c8e-4…

Or, go to the PSN store, go through Play At Home.

Or you the app on your mobile phone, you should be able to purchase it for free. If your PSN account(s) are in a different regions, you will probably still need to wait a few hours.

Thanks to TezBiAn for pointing it people who collected this via PS Plus can still purchase it free. Good job Sony on this one.

  • No hardware achievement unlocked!

  • My Adblocker was interfering..

  • thanks and cheers

  • Got it, cheers op!

  • Awesome, was able to add it to library even though I had it on PS+

  • +1

    Thanks got two copies.

    • you only need 1.

      • I have got two logins.

  • Something went wrong. Try again later.

    • +2

That could happen when you login to the wrong PSN site. For example, I was trying to claim my 2nd copy of this on my US PSN account and for some reason, it switched to AU PSN link and I was not able to purchase properly.

Try browser in Incognito mode and visit the Sony PS store that matches your account region. If you had recently used VPN or have multiple PSN accounts, the site could incorrectly send you to the wrong store/link. Or, you could use the link that matches your Sony PS profile (assuming your account is either AU or US).

      AU link: https://store.playstation.com/en-au/category/83ccec1a-8c8e-4…
      US link: https://store.playstation.com/en-us/category/83ccec1a-8c8e-4…

    • Read comments above. Logging out and logging in fixes the problem also.

  • Can you claim this now via laptop if you planning to buy a PS5 later in the year? I don’t have a PS account yet.

  • Hasn't expired yet but it's no longer free =(
