Logitech Harmony Companion and Hub available from Amazon UK via Amazon AU…..not the cheapest ever but its decent for today.

Understand this isn't everyone's cup of tea and yes the Harmony Elite is top of the line with more functionality but its also very expensive. If you want some of the bells and whistles of having a top end remote but don't need all of them then this is a good option at a pretty decent price.

Cheapest I could find for local stock was via Catch and the price there was $215 plus delivery (I think delivery may be free with a Catch Club membership that I don't have). The last deal on OzB that I could find for this remote was back in April 2019 so having stumbled across this Amazon UK deal I thought I would post.

Not sure when this deal ends as it says its Limited Time Only on the Amazon site.

Some of the features include:-

Control over your home entertainment and smart home devices
Streamlined button layout and full number pad
Enjoy single-touch automation to trigger limitless experiences
Set recordings, turn on the lights or activate any of your devices while you’re not home
Create custom activities and favourites
Works with Google Home, and Alexa
Remote is RF based, not IR so you don't need to point it at your devices
Mobile app lets you control from your phone

  • Harmony Companion works with over 270,000 entertainment and smart home devices

Is there a link that lists them ???

Don't really want to fork out almost $200 if it's not going to work…

    • It can learn the remote buttons of your unknown devices, so it doesn't matter if it's on the list.

  • can we use it to control air condition?

    • I don't have the remote yet as I only just ordered it but have a look at the following to see if anything is listed for your particular unit

      https://support.myharmony.com/en-us/compatibility

These things can often learn capability from existing remotes so if you still had that then you could possibly teach it should it not be in the database already.

Sort of, but not really. There isn't a proper air-conditioning interface in the Harmony system.
You might be able to learn the codes from your AC remote, but if you've got a split system with IR remote, your existing air conditioner remote sends a specific command for every possible combination - e.g. there is a specific IR command for "Heat to 25 degrees with swinging vents and medium fan". This means there are hundreds of possible codes which you'd need Harmony to learn - this would be impractical, and probably max out the number of buttons available in Harmony.
As a compromise, you could perhaps teach Harmony the most common commands you use (e.g. one code for your preferred heating setting, one for cooling, and the 'off' code), and then just assign these to their own buttons.

      • This isnt the case for all AC systems/remotes as far as I know.

    • For aircon control you may be better off getting a Mirabella Genio IR blaster for Air Con control for $29 from Kmart. It has hundreds of air con models to choose from. But you wont have a physical remote to control it with, rather an app on the phone or google home.

Have been using one of these for about a decade now. Highly recommended for anyone with multiple media devices, ESPECIALLY if you have a receiver. We have TV, receiver, Shield TV, PS4, PS5, Switch all connected and the Harmony has reduced 4+ remotes into a single remote. Something that's not often noted, is that it does both IR and Bluetooth, so most devices that have Bluetooth remotes will also work (in our case, PS4 and Shield TV).

We also have it linked to Google Home so that we can be upstairs, and get the TV to turn on and be ready for us when we head downstairs.

    Great product!

  • I am seeing the reviews on Amazon and it looks like the software is a hot mess. Wondering if someone with a remote can chime in.

    • I have an earlier Harmony remote and the app to program that isn't the greatest it has to be said. From what I have read the best option is to use a desktop with the software installed to set it up rather than an app on a phone but I suppose everyone will have a different experience and viewpoint.

I expect that when I get this remote delivered, programming it will have some "nuances" like the earlier one I own but nothing that can't be worked through.

      YMMV though.

The software isn't great when you want to make changes as it takes a while to resync and wants to do it every other time you touch a setting rather than batching a whole lot of them. Its largely set and forget however unless you are changing your devices frequently. We also gravitate towards using the smart control over the phone app which is one less interaction with the software.

    • There's no desktop software as far as I know for the companion. There's a phone app.

      Pros and cons of app:

      • Slow and crappy. I avoid it as much as possible. Aim to set up, then never open it again.
      • Some usability quirks which may take some getting used to. Basic things like progressing through steps, can be confusing because of the way they've designed the UI for those processes.
      • It calls home back to Logitech a lot to "check for updates" and forces you to have a Logitech account and log in. I hate forced registration.
      • Privacy concerns.. the hub is always connected to the internet. Guaranteed to be logging all activity. It knows where you live because enabling geo location on your device is mandatory to setting up the remote. The app demands you enable a lot of permissions.
      • The integration with Hue lights is unreliable, basically broken. The buttons to control your lights might work for a few days, then stop working for no apparent reason. Hassle to fix, as you need to re-sync and mess around. Then it will stop working again a few days later. Don't buy it for the Hue integration.
  • Have one in the media room for projector, receiver, shield, Apple TV, 3 game consoles, curtain and lights. Works on everything expect for PS5 and Switch. Only gripe is lack of backlit buttons if you intent to use it in a complete dark room.
Software is best of the kind, I also have 2 x Broadlink RMs and a Global Cache IP2IR.

  • Given this ships from the UK, I assume it will not have an Australian power adaptor?

    • The hub uses a USB Micro input so good chance you'll have a spare PSU you can use with it if you don't want to use an adaptor.

  • Still kicking myself for not buying the Elite all them years back as I already had Ultimates.

That said, happy enough with them. Hub is definitely the way to go, no missed IR commands. Voice assistant integration pretty handy too, only downside being can really only have one hub per assistant account (luckily I use Google in the room where I have one remote and Alexa in the other)
