Warranty on Blu-Ray Discs?

Hey all,

I purchased Once Upon A Time blu-ray box set from Zavvi last March, arrived in April. Don't know when wife started watching them but she realised some of the episodes weren't working, so she decided to (over the course of the following few months) watch the rest of the series to see which other ones are faulty while compiling a very detailed list of which discs and episodes don't work.

I sent all this info off ot Zavvi last week and they just responded saying they can't help because it was purchased 10-11 months ago.

What's the ACL warranty on blu-ray discs? I would have thought we'd have the standard 12 months. To be fair I could have contacted them as soon as we noticed one of the episodes not working which would have been almost immediately, but wifey wanted to check every disc and I figured I had a year.

TIA for your knowledge.

Have you tried those discs on another player? To see if it is disc or your blu-ray player.

    • Just asked and she only tried on the Xbox one x which I traded in back in November so I'll test it on the ps5 and series x and my pc to see what happens, but looking at the Amazon reviews posted below, it's not looking great.

Try smearing a bit of toothpaste with water on the shiny surface and then rinse it off.

If it was the same week you received the discs I could understand, however 10-11 months afterward, I can understand why they said no.
ACL is all about what is fair and reasonable, so not sure you could easily convince someone to get them replaced.

    • Great. Pricey paper weight.

  • Zavvi aren't australian, are they?

    • Purchased from zavvi.com.au means Australian ABN

      • +2

.com.au does not necessarily mean Australian Business unless you have an ABN mentioned on their website or tax invoice.

        • Looks like it's not an issue for me now, solved by playing on PS5. Shame others have experienced this issue with this boxset too though. It's clearly a widespread manufacturing defect and the manufacturers should have a permanent global recall available for affected customers.

It's mandatory to have an ABN when claiming a com.au domain name though…

Maybe a WHOIS lookup would find it?

      • Yeah, Zavvi is UK based, however they do their Australian operations through "Skincarestore pty ltd" strangely enough, who are affiliated with My Protein lol

saying they can't help because it was purchased 10-11 months ago

Sounds fair enough to me. Who knows how many times you could have frisbee em in that time.

    • That's true, it's pretty much all I do with my blu-ray collection.

Looks like all the episodes the wife had issues with work fine on the PS5 so problem.. solved? Pity for those that own this box set but don't have a player that can play it.

    Consumer Guarantees clearly states:

Products must be of acceptable quality, that is:

    safe, lasting, with no faults
    look acceptable
do all the things someone would normally expect them to do.
Acceptable quality takes into account what would normally be expected for the type of product and cost.

I would normally expect a blu-ray disc to last more than 10 months, and I would hope that the OZB community would agree!

I think your Blueray rom (in Xbox) may have issues with some other discs as well if that is the case. If you have a Blueray rom in the PC, you can do a disc test (may be with Nero discspeed or some thing like that)

Sure, but who's to say you or your wife haven't done something to the disc to cause it not to play?

The fact that it plays in the PS5 means that it's not a disc issue, it's an issue with how the laser is aligned in your other player.

      So it's not a fault.

      • If all the other people that bought it on Amazon are complaining, it's a crappy disc.

and they wonder why people still torrent…

    • If you purchased it already there's really no ethical argument against downloading a copy if it is a faulty disc.
