  • just recently got one of these to run as a kodi and squeezelite network player and its great (there are better units for this alone, but the Pi is more easily repurposed at a later date).

still some software issues with 4k HDR if I understand correctly, but I haven't tested that myself. Everything else works perfectly.

  • Love thy Pi.

  • It says "2 × micro-HDMI ports (up to 4kp60 supported)"

Can it do one QHD or WQHD? I thought I read that RPI can't do 1440p maybe I was looking at a RPI3?

I've got a Xiaomi 34 ultra wide which is 3400x1440

    • I can't think of any reason why it wouldn't be just as capable of drawing less pixels, but I guess it's possible that it might require some slightly more advanced software configuration.

edit: but while the Pi4 is billed as the first Pi that's a viable desktop replacement, I'm not sure I would really recommend it for that purpose. It's only just barely there IMO. Low power though of course of that's more important to you.

      • I just want something that I can VPN and reminna on Ubuntu and occasional Google spreadsheet but also get 1440p just so I get a bit more screen real estate.

Already use Ubuntu desktop but stuck with 1080p at the moment, eventually going to get another laptop for not for another 6 months+ just wanted something to get by.

    • I got one of these 2 weeks ago (paid $8 more 😑)…when I first booted into the pixel desktop there was a black frame, but after a reboot it was 3440x1440…I was just configuring it to boot direct from SSD, so haven't stayed in that environment, but it definitely worked…

  • I would wait until the 4B gets upgraded to the improved 400 CPU.

  • Tempting but I'm looking pretty hard at the Argon M2 case.

    • Check AliExpress for m.2 case. It's $57 with shipping. Cheapest I can ever find.

      • Shipping time is about 6 weeks last time I looked :/

Just for your reference. I ordered mine on 26th Jan, and it arrived on 10th Feb. Roughly 16 days.

          • @Hank233333: How did you find it? I've had mixed success with AliExpress before. Was it the real thing or a close knock off?

            • +1

              @ashanrath: It's the real one.

I chose the item with more than 100 comments, and 4.6 stars rating.

Normally, I would also look into the comments make by other buyers. It's not that hard to tell whether they are real buyers or not.

In this way, the probability of failure is very low.

    I paid more last week :( …

    • me too :'( like $132 i think

  • can it run zoom on it? lol serious questions

    • I'm new to all this as well but I have been looking at this link for a bit of advice. Hope it can help you:
      https://www.raspberrypi.org/blog/working-from-home-with-your…

    • Yes. It can run pretty much any basic app any other computer can. Obviously its not for high end gaming, but there will be some decent games that will also run on it (not even mentioning the old school fun with ROMS)

  • Is this the best Pi variant to run Home Assistant?

    • From what I've read, it is recommended to have a Pi 3 or above.

    • Can handle that and more quite comfortably.

    • Running HA, Caddy, Transmission, Bitwarden on a 3.
They run but can be a bit laggy at times.
I would think the 4 would handle them fine.

      • thanks man!

  • Showing as $150 for me
