3 Year LG Warranty. Not bad.

    • EDIT: Nevermind, worked it out

      • +1

        I haven't. Enlighten me someone?

        • Judging by the description on other sites, it comes with a 3 year warranty as standard

      • yep LG has 3 year warranty standard

        • Thanks, that's generous of them!

  • yeah heard this on the radio. not bad at all, was still hoping for D550 to be on a good boxing day special though.

  • +1

Nuts! I think I'll get this in the next few days… bloody brilliant price considering I was going to try and haggle JB from 900 to 800 :P

  • +1

    excellent product and price

    • +1

Extra glasses are $1 at your local cinema too :)

  • Don't bite the post officer, but I just saw this on HN - I don't know how to model compares, just thought you guys may be interested! :)

    http://www.harveynorman.com.au/homepage/lg-full-high-definit…

      • Yes, that would be the same one Steptoe. Note that KLoNe's model is non-3D and only 50Hz, but still probably similar picture quality.

    • +1

Mate I dont think this one is similiar to GG which has 100Hz refresh rate compare to HN50 & not mentioned even 3D.

  • +2

Damn, I just bought this TV a couple of months ago for over $800. Was worth it then. Great picture and features. Only downside I could find was the sound wasnt the greatest due to how thin it is. A couple of external PC speakers fixed that or you could go through a hifi system if needed.

  • Bought $690 from The Good Guys in morning

    • which store were u buyin from?

      • Good Guys Cranbourne Vic

  • any experiences with LG brand (quality, repair rate etc)?
also im looking for at 50". any recommendattion?

    • +3

Had a 42" LG LCD for over 3 years now and it is still fantastic, beats our 42" Panasonic plasma in every way. Everything we have purchased that is LG has been that way for us. Can't say the same for all the Samsung junk we sent to the tip!

BTW Sharp also have enough faith in their TVs to offer a 3 year warranty like LG too.

      • Its fair to have that opinion although I think it may not sit too well with the Panasonic crew who rave about the picture quality of their flagship plasma.

        • Rave all they like… they were good a few years ago but plasmas are on the out as their current pricing indicates. LED is the go now.

  • What is HN price beat policy, doesn't have a specfic % and is this the same TV http://www.harveynorman.com.au/lg-42-full-high-definition-le…

    • As discussed above, yes this is the same TV. As for their price-beat policy I have no idea… once had some weird explanation that I had to first buy from them at their price, then come back later and get the refund. I was confused and conclude that the salesman didn't know diddly squat.

      • It's called a price guarantee… after you purchase if you find it cheaper within 30 days (varies) they will refund you the difference. Not complicated.

Price match is where you go in with a competitors price and ask for that or better.

        • +1

I get that they will beat the competitor's price but how much will they beat it by?

        • wonderboy>>
There is no law that says they have to beat it by any specific amount. 1c qualifies.

  • NOOOO!!! i paid $800 bucks for this a month ago from a private seller who bought from the good guys in sept for $1047. if only i waited….

  • How much does this TV retail for? How does the $100 cash back work I read you need to buy an additional LG product. How do you get on the internet with this TV. I already use a wired broadband connection with my computer. Do I just hook this up or do I need to buy the LG WiFi dongle, which will qualify me for the $100 cash back. Yeah that is the same TV at Harvey Norman. I may ask for it. They should be able to price match this TV from good guys.

      • Recently 800-1000.
      • Yes you need to buy an additional product, cheapest I think were blu-ray players for $150-200 so it's only if you actually want the item really. EDIT: (or that wifi dongle, I don't know for sure if it qualifies but it sounds like you do)
      • With an ethernet cable.
      • You can buy a wifi dongle, it doesn't include wifi. (not sure if it can be a generic dongle)

      cashback has finished

  • Active or passive 3D?

if it's active this is a steal!

    • its passive 3d

    • +22

It's passive.. and it's a selling point that its not active.

Just to explain if you don't know, active is the battery powered glasses that flicker (and give some people headaches). Passive is the polarized glasses exactly the same as you get in the cinema (hence why it's called 'Cinema 3D') which don't have any electronics in the glasses and don't flicker. Their only main downside is a dimmer screen due to the polarized filters, and it's not a 'Full HD 3D' image, as half the lines on the TV are polarized for one eye, and half for the other, effectively giving you a 1920x540 image for each eye.

      • +1

Thanks for clarifying for us dummies lol

      • can is the 3d pic quality for movies and gaming worse on lg?

        • its not as good as active but just sit further back and its fine

        • I would say it's more enjoyable without the flicker, and as long as you are more than about a metre away from the screen it's great. Closer than that you can see a sort of black haze, very close you may be able to see the alternating black and coloured lines. Any reasonable distance away though and it's very difficult to see any difference compared to an active screen; you probably won't be able to see any difference in quality.

To note though: I had a look again at this screen today, and one thing to consider is viewing angles vertically are very poor, the filter starts screwing up and you see both images with both eyes, and the 3D effect is ruined. Keep yourself at roughly eye level however and it looks great, and you can move as far as you like to either side without affecting the picture. Just so you know though having kids sitting on the floor say in front of the TV on a cabinet will not work at all for 3D, It borks the picture hard.

      • +2

It is the shutter glasses that are dimmer.

        • +1

Both make a dimmer screen really. Active shutter glasses have the whole screen black for each eye for half the time, and passive have half of the screen black for all of the time. You can always just crank the brightness though to compensate, but I don't know how much this detriments the picture.

  • I'm not sure if the cash back promo is still on but it's worth nothing you can get the 47lw5700 for around $1050 - $1100 with the cash back on top you can end up having it for $750 - $800 which is a better deal in my option

    • pls link for pricing if you can that seems very cheap and you obviously had to buy a second item as well

    • yes but you have to spend more on another item to qualify, if there still is a cash beck offer.

      • cashback last day was 24th dec.. xmas eve..

  • If you can still grab it do so. I spent 699 on it some time ago because of a HN mixup and I am loving it. The 2d to 3d function is quite fun.

  • bought one , apparently lasr day at this price if you can believe the salesman,

    • Heard those tales way back when SD sets were $3000 + LOLLLZZZ

  • +1

Got it for $690 at Harvey Norman North Ryde, cheers!

    • Hello, Could you please upload the receipt ?

    • Can you please pm me a copy of your reciept?
thanks so much!! You can either post here or pm it to me. thanks

  • I just called the Good Guys Dandenong (VIC) store, they said they don't have stock and the price has gone back to over $1k. They couldn't tell me if other stores still have the $697 price.

  • It seems this sale has expired… at least at the GG I went to in Bayswater. It does in fact say the sale was only for boxing day in the full ad I saw, but it was only in the fine print so they were sort of being twats about it.

From what others have said it seems like price matching (being careful not to show an expiry date XD) at JB/HN and the like would be your best bet guys.

  • I called Chadstone (VIC) Good Guys, they said out of stock. They said Brighton still has stock but it is most likely back to the original price since it was a boxing day special only :(

  • +2

If you're in Perth, don't bother.

Called good guys in Cannington and couldn't get any sales people, went in at 11 and they said they sold out way early in the morning. Called harvey norman and couldn't get any sales people, called back an hour later and they disclaimed they ever carried this model. Called jb hifi, couldn't get any sales people. Went into the store, saw it was $848 and couldn't get a single sales person to haggle with. Called again to try to haggle the price over the phone while I was in store, waited 5 minutes on hold, and gave up.

Fuck boxing day. What else does a guy have to do? What bullshit.

    • +3

Any other day and you'd have fifteen salespeople that wouldn't leave you alone XD

Condolences for the crappy experience though bro. Shouldn't be too long till it's cheap though, I hear LG is going to be showing off some fine tech at CES next month which should bring these models down :)

      • Thanks. I didn't want to sound entitled and whiney, just wanted to buy a TV. Reading your response it seems I'm not crazy at feeling jipped.

      • Yup, LG start pumping 55 inch OLED!!!! the price could be far from bargain tough LOL

    • +1

I live in Perth as well,
this morning , I went to JB ,HN(cannington and vic park) ,Dicksmith and GoodGuys
      all sold out..

  • Dont bother at Bankstown NSW Good Guys, none left but went to go pick one up at Auburn and should have a few more in stock there

  • +1

I think i've got the best deal for this TV. got it at JBHIFI for $650

    • which JB ?

    • can you upload your reciept? thx

    • Can you please upload your reciept or PM it to me? thanks heaps!!

    • +1 request for you to pm me/upload the receipt please.. damn bought a 40" Samsung from JB thinking it was an ok deal til I found this thread. I'm gonna exchange it for this if I can get it for 650

    • if can get it for $650 i will definately get one

  • does anyone in nsw have a receipt for their purchase? would love to price match at myer

    • I went to myer today, They was selling this one for 899.
I asked them to price match with, but they told me 899 was the lowest price. if they sold me for less than 899 which would below the cost … wtf

  • Bought one at set $696 at Rockdale, couldn't go any lower. Was hanging around the shop for about half an hour and already 3 customers bought this TV during that time.

    • Can you post a copy of your reciept or PM it to me please? thanks!!

  • Called goodguys in moorabin and they said it was only a boxing day special

  • I still dont know whether this or the D550 plasma is a better buy. this one wont get as hot, but the plasma you get bigger screen and maybe better picture quality for same price.

    • Yeah I also checked out Samsung D550 at GG, couldn't remember if it was only $100 more than this smaller LG. Chose this LG because we tend to view our TV in brightly lid living room, which I believe LCD is better than plasma in this situation.

      • yeah well D550 was $699 and was hoping it would get lower in the boxing day sales, but they have fallen a bit flat this year unfortunately, really a waste of time overall. I think I will get this LG because I saw it in JBHIFI and it is a very smart looking TV. I wouldn't mind something bigger at 51" but 42" is quite big, and its going in a bedroom anyway so will be huge for that purpose. The LED and energy efficiency are both bonuses. The D550 does get very hot, and would not be nice in a hot summer. Will try get this one from JB and maybe use my stocklands $10 vouchers towards it :P

  • Got one from The good guy Auburn branch for $690. It was taged for 696, apparently u can talk about the price.

  • ter did you get it at that price today or yesterday from Auburn the people who bought it at Rockdale. How much stock was left. How much is the price going to be now.

    • I got it this morning. 27th/dec/11

      • can you please upload a copy of your reciept or pm a copy to me? thanks!!

  • how long is the warranty for this TV if something goes wrong do you have to bring it back to the store or contact LG.

    • Like all tv's … phone the warranty contact no in the warranty certificate and they usually have a local repair agent.
You usually only take sets back to the store if they are doa out of box.

  • Hi denikun, which JB HIFI did you get the TV from and can you please upload the receipt?

    • yeah, Could you pls upload the receipt so I can try if they can match price in WA

  • Sold out at The Good Guys Liverpool now

  • Grabbed last one here on the Gold Coast at 4.40pm :) was tossing up wether to get one or not so upgraded the FHD 32' Samsung in the bedroom to this 42' beauty :D very happy with the purchase… those real3D glasses came in handy with the already 4 bundled with the tv unit (2 white, 2 orange sets)…

Apart from using youtube on the appletv for 3d content… i.e "LG Cinema 3D demo" like the one playing on the sets in the shops.. does anyone know where to obtain the actual LG disc or files as the youtube shows off the 3d but its not fluid motion as its streaming off the net…

  • 698 at gg Brighton Vic.. Had to say I knew someone who also got today 27th

    • GG at Brighton VIC said to me 798 (100 extra). GG Dandenong VIC also told me that the same price. Am I getting wrong info?

    • Could you please upload the receipt? Thanks

      • Too late now, it appears this sale price ended yesterday.

        • I see. I bought it yesterday but the guys insisted that the price is 798 (similar to HN is offering).

  • Purchased Toshiba 42SL800A from Harvey Norman Braybrook VIC on Boxing day for $680,
