Pic 7. Fingers too wrinkly to be the girls? :p

I guess the suspension is cool but will pass. Not doing it for me.

    • same for me, I like the suspension but I don't think I will be buying this one.

      Not doing it for me.

Agreed, it's a bit of a basic b*tch Technic set. The scale is undersized for the vehicle it's representing, giving it weird proportions and the level of detail is quite low for an automotive set.

It's quite a shame as the boxy shape of a Wrangler would lend itself very well to being recreated in detail in a larger scale as a Lego flagship set just like the Land Rover Defender, which is an excellent set, but evidently Lego designed this as a more budget-oriented model.

I put it in the same category as the Corvette ZR1 and the McLaren Senna, both of which look equally cruddy and low-effort due to the overly ambitious, geometrically-complex vehicles Lego decided upon trying to model within the confines of a low-piece count, budget design; which never works out well. Again, a damn shame because the real-life McLaren Senna and Corvette ZR1 are great-looking cars and would, if given a proper flagship treatment, be amazing Lego sets.

      • Heh. Dont mind the ZR1(at $55)

      • What cara would look good at that scale in that price range? Any car could look decent at the Land Rover or Chiron/Sian scale but Lego knows some people want sets that are <$100.

        • What cara would look good at that scale in that price range?

Truthfully, not many but I think Lego's generic vehicles and original non-licensed designs are the best sub-$100 dollar sets in terms of form and function.

Because of the immense licensing royalties they pay to vehicle manufacturers whenever they want to reproduce their real-life vehicles, that eats into the budget that would ordinarily be spent on R&D for that set design.

      • They haven’t released a mega kit for some time - I think the last one was the Leibherr excavator and the bucket wheel excavator before that. I don’t recall seeing something of similar scale in the most recent catalogue.

        • I was referring to the mid-range and flagship vehicular sets, not machinery, i.e. the Porsche 911 GT3 RS (2016), Bugatti Chiron (2018), Porsche 911 RSR (2019), Land Rover Defender (2020), Dodge Charger (2020), Lamborghini Sian (2020), Ferrari 488 GTE (2020), etc.

Those two scales (the mid-range and flagship) are the ones that real-life vehicles translate well into when rendered in Lego Technic; whereas the Jeep Wrangler is noticeably smaller than all of the above-mentioned sets and has a far lower piece count; hence what I meant when I said the scale used for it is too under-sized and it ends up looking "off".

Apparently there's going to be another big set this winter that will have almost 4000 pieces that will retail for the same as the Leibherr excavator this year but I don't know how reliable that rumor is.

          • @joetenem: Oh sweet. I’ll keep my ear to the ground. If it’s the same price and pieces as the Leibherr, then it’s probably going to have lots of motors and controllers. Cool.

@Thrower-Way: Yeah, I heard that it would have 7/8 motors :o
              I'm pretty excited for it.

Maybe the engine will also breakdown (fall apart in Lego terms) pretty fast too, just like the real Jeeps

Spotted the person who has never owned or driven a Jeep

      • +6

Yeah good on him. Should never own or drive a jeep. Everytime you want to buy an American made car, you should listen to some Jeremy Clarkson quotes to ward you off.

      • My friend worked in service. Said the only reliable engine was the SRT actually. Told me not to even think about buying anything else.

so the mercedes 6-cyl diesel they use is no good?

I had a 6-cyl petrol wrangler for 100k+ and never had an issue. The issue is more likely to be non-engine related. But hey, never let a good rumour stop you from spouting an uninformed opinion.

        • Except the 6.4 hemi from the SRT is prone to lifter failure which left unchecked grenades the whole engine..

Sadly seems to be a tick-the-box branding exercise…

"Kids will love the car's button to operate the front steering, opening doors and hood, and prestigious Jeep Wrangler Rubicon branding"

  • jeep stands for just empty every pocket
