  • I was advised by my Dentist that any mouth wash can give you mouth cancer and they suggested to use tooth mousse.

    • what doesn't?

        Tooth mousse

        • Spruce Moose?

    • +2

Based on the alcohol ones I assume… The risk is very low though… Like not even something you should be concerned about.

      • When I asked, better to use non alcohol one then ? They said avoid mouth wash. Use tooth mousse instead.

… he then sold you some tooth mousse

      General take away is

Thus, critical review of published data revealed that a link between mouthwash use, specifically alcohol-containing mouthwash, and oral cancers is not supported by epidemiological evidence.

I am curious though, mouth wash having adverse side effects is something that i never thought about.

Not rinsing after brushing because it's best to keep the fluoride of the toothpaste on your teeth. That includes not rinsing with tap water after brushing, which most people are in the habit of doing. Mouthwash is best for reducing plaque during the day, which can reduce gum disease.

My dentist has recommended mouthwash to substitute my regular brushing after meals, as I have some early gum recession from too frequent brushing. Non-alcohol is the recommendation.

        • Hmm I have been rinsing with water after brushing since I was born. Wouldn't it be a bit yucky to keep the paste and a bit of leftover food in your mouth ?

          • @yht: Shouldn't be leftover food if you've brushed well and spat out. Start omitting the rinse at the end… you won't notice a difference in a weeks time and the fluoride contact will make a large long-term difference to incidence of carries, tooth integrity, and dental bills.

Sounds like he's not up to date on the literature, or holds his own opinions despite evidence from studies performed elsewhere.

          • @Oofy Doofy: Mouthwash is a minor issue in dental care. It's not necessary. I was brushing up to 3-4 times a day (with a very soft bristled toothbrush) as a habit after every meal in an attempt to reduce my incidence of carries. My gums paid a price with some recession. Twice a day is sufficient, with rinses during the day. You can rinse simply with water, or drinking regularly. But mouthwash is more effective at plaque removal and pH neutralisation. Not a significant difference to labour on.

Hundreds of people going to bed tonight with toothpaste all over their mouth and Miracle is just sitting back laughing.

    • My dentist said mouth wash is a waste of time. You shouldn’t use mouth wash or even water to rinse after brushing your teeth.

    too slow

  • Weirdly I get tongue burn/mild allergy from this particular mouthwash despite it has no alcohol in it.

Not suitable for me and had to refund. YMMV.

    • Refund? I'd just gift it to somebody.

I bought 30 bottles from CW tonight

      • For real? How quickly are you going through a bottle?

        • 12.5 days per 500ml bottle, give or take.

          20ml x 2 per day = 500ml per 12.5 days

I visit my dentist 10 times a month he says to keep eating sweets and only drink sugary drinks. Oh and never ever brush or floss he takes care of the one tooth I have left very well.

  • In the words of a 40's wigan peasant "teeth are but a burder unto oneself. To relinquish your teeth is to embrace freedom." Or something along those line.
