Looking for Floor Mop Recommendations

Hi all,

Can someone please recommend a mop other than the conventional twisters/spin mops which are easy to use and gives a good clean after brushing porcelain and laminate floor? Something ~ $100 would be ideal.

We have always used these conventional mops but looking at something more modern and comfortable to use and which doesn't break the back and shoulders. Thank you.

You just need a standard mop and a wringer bucket. The mops that wring themselves are always crap.

Surely you can't spend $100 on a mop? I'm happy with the Vileda one that I have and thought that was expensive for $40

I'd check the price of head replacements too. Fancy mop and bucket system is great and all, but not if the heads are expensive to replace. Bunnings sell great string mops, real heavy things, but the weak point is on the join to the handle.

Refills are about $9 but I usually only buy them when they're on sale even cheaper.

My wife bought this a few months ago. Works well, better than the Bunnings ones.

    • Hi. Just doing my research on mops and came across your comment. Is this one still working well for you? Would you recommend?

      • Yeah, still going strong

        • Thanks

    • Hi, repeat question, still going good for you?

Yes, but we stepped up and got a TINECO. vacumm/ mop in one.

I find that hot water and disinfectant with a standard ‘stringy’ mop along with a foot ringer bucket works really well. As Rorypitt said that’s the reason why commercial cleaners use these types of mops, because they’re easy to use, and give a good result.

  • Nobody uses sponge type? I am not a fan of running a filthy mop head in my washing machine and get quite a few months of use out of a sponge head style mop before replacing…

    • We do, tried a wedding style one similar to find of the above, but where the strings were like strips of chux, and it apparently wasn't very good, so went back to the sponge one with the squeeze handle.

Am I the only one that uses a towel wetted in the sink with hot water and detergent, and rubs around the floor by sort of walking on it? It is easier to clean edges as you can push into the edge with your toe and give it a real scrub along the edge. A mop head on a handle would have a hard time there as it is a blunt instrument (would probably need to clean the edge separately with a rag or scrubbing brush)

Side note - be careful with a mop on laminate floors, most are not waterproof, and mopping, especially with a regular mop can cause long term damage.

i get this Mop head from Kmart, cost around $ 10 and $ 3 for head.

I am using this mop for last 10 years and did not went back, simply very light in weight, no flufs as its a soft rubber, it scrubs the dirt off when mopping and no water marks left after using the mop. Head last me for around 3 to 5 months mopping whole house for once a week and it dries up over the weekend but soak in water again it gets back to its life.
Nothing better after using this one.

One thing I found is that the length of the handle makes a big difference. Go for a longer one and your back will thank you for it

  • I purchased this one at Bunnings, but appears unavailable now.

Can be used as a wide or narrow mop. Easy ring out. I also use it to go over doors.
Machine washable mop head which is attached by velcro.
