  • Targeted to those who have Everyday Rewards in assuming?

    • +8

Targeted (I didnt get it in mine)

      • Same, not in my rewards app.

        • -1

How does one claim on Online order??

      • Can never even see these in the app (android), only show barcode and Boost my points

      • They are still sending out the email as we speak so maybe just wait for a while.

        • +3

They send so many bloody emails, hardly worth it for a free $10 once or twice a year

          • +5

@G-rig: Then you are doing it wrong. We get several hundred dollars each year. You just have to work the system.

            • @bigspike: Yeah nah I scan the rewards card, but shop at ALDI, Coles, Asian supermarket as well.

              • +3

@G-rig: I scan the rewards card

That's your mistake. If they think you are in the shop, they don't need to entice you back.

                • @bigspike: What, so you don't try and get 2000 points?
Hardly worth it when it's one or two emails to boost points every Bloody day

      • +9
        • How's that different to the applies only to certain past products you've bought still I assume

          • @G-rig: link above worked for me ?

        • Thanks a lot / is there a path way to all deals you don't get targeted . Or are you a 1 time Woolworths magician.
Just applied to me and my mums card with the link. a+++

  • Thanks OP, got it in my rewards app.

    • Me too.

    • I boosted. Then scanned my rewards card. Nothing came up in my receipt about the bag.
The attendant wasn't aware of this and said there is no deal going on :-(

      • +2

You have to grab a new bag, scan that new bag, then scan the rewards card.

        • damn!
Thanks. Need to grab some mil tomorrow anyways. Will get it then.

  • Thanks OP.

I doubt they'd be offering these to South Aussies.

    • +3

Its on my husband's card. We are in SA.

    • +1

In SA and I got the email

    • I am from SA, its in my rewards app too.

      • Wow that's surprising!

    • SA, got it too!

Just picked up one for this week.

  • +15

Nothing "green" about these bags, they are made of plastic fibre and take hundreds of years to break down.

    • +10

Probably referring to the colour green :P

      • +4

Not from a marketing perspective :)

    • +8

You are not supposed to throw them away!

      • +2

They don't last for your lifetime, so yes, you will need to throw in the trash ultimately.

        • +17

Ah your meant to take them back to the store, they will replace them for free and recycle them.

        • +3

I get good use from these bags approx 2-3 yrs for each before I replace them at store.

          • @msonu1975: For me I recall seeing them around my place but they have never been taken back . I normally for larger buys use a trolley but for convenience will buy a 15c or 30c bag ( they seem to run out of the 15c a lot ) .

    • -2

Have you ever left one in the sun? They completely degrade within months. Not all plastic takes a long time to degrade. If it's not UV stabilised plastic will degrade in months.

      • +11

It will break down into tiny plastic fragments. The actual plastic itself won't break down. Part of this whole microplastics issue. These need to be recycled in store.

      • +1

Yeah its a common misconception unfortunately :\

        Degradable/Biodegradable vs compostable.

"Degradable bags are made from plastic with other chemicals added (including heavy metals) that cause the plastic to break down and disintegrate over time when exposed to sunlight and heat. If degradable bags are released into our environment they become quite problematic as they break down into hundreds of tiny pieces of plastic. Animals can consume the smaller pieces of plastic more readily than they would if the bags were still whole.

"Compostable bags are made of natural plant starch, and do not produce any toxic material. Compostable bags break down readily in a composting system through microbial activity to form compost."

        Further reading: https://www.burnside.sa.gov.au/files/assets/public/environme…
        https://www.1millionwomen.com.au/blog/plastic-bags-whats-dif…

      • They do NOT biodegrade (i.e broken down into their constituent parts by bacteria) , they photo degrade and end up as micro plastics that are now everywhere from animals to the fetus of unborn children and we ingest 1000s of them.

As to "recycling them in store", that doesn't happen either, they are collected in store (ie you bin them at the store) they are collected and most likely they eventually end up in land fill. Only a tiny percentage of plastics are ever recycled and even then eventually it can't be recycled anymore and ends up in landfill anyway. All plastic will eventually end up in landfill, or worse, enter into the general environment. Every time I go for a kayak (Gold Coast) I collect buckets of the stuff and that's just stuff I directly pass and can see, I don't go out of my way to collect it.

    • +4

You're right, but you can put them in the redcycle bin to be recycled, so not perfect but they don't need to go in landfill.

      • -1

Not in my collection area - will cost money to be separated & likely go to landfill!
Check your local recycling collection rules for what can be put in recycling bin.

        • +7

Oh I mean I drop them into the Redcycle bin in the supermarket, not in my recycling at home. They take soft plastics, such as plastic bags, packaging and specifically 'green bags' it's a pretty cool scheme https://www.redcycle.net.au/what-to-redcycle/ apparently it gets turned into outdoor furniture, decking boards etc.

          • +1

@morse: Was wondering what a redcycle bin was or if it was a typo.
Coles sometimes have a garden seat made from the bags to promote the scheme.
Good idea. Thanks for quickly clarifying 👍

  • +2

Don't like them. Straps too short. Can't get them over shoulder. Forced to carry bag in hand - tiring.

    • +1

Can't tie them shut either to stop things from falling out when in the boot of the car

    • +3

They're not really supposed to be tote bags.

      • What are they meant to be? Green bags you can carry to your dirty car? Not for walkers.

        • A reusable alternative to plastic bags

    • Go shopping witha hiking bag then.

    • -1

      take in car lol

    • +1

shaybisc, this is certainly not the perfect solution but I went down to the $2 shop, bought a cheap luggage strap and Ozbargain-fashioned some grocery-carrying straps in this manner (https://www.google.com/search?q=GROCERY+GRIPP&tbm=isch&ved=2…). The brunt of the weight is carried on both my shoulder, and either my wrist or elbow.

  • +7

FYI, they have a policy that allows you to swap old bags that are damaged for new ones. I've done it a few times in the last year as they eventually rip or the black base breaks.

  • -8

just buy a 15c bag. 100 bags is like $15 dollars and way more convenient. You can reuse them and don’t need to bring them back with you

    • Ok. Enjoy your $15less life

    • +1

Why are you telling me to spend money for a bag rather than using a much stronger, more durable, FREE green bag?

  • I was targeted - thanks OP

  • +2

    Not in my rewards app
    Sad that not being targeted

    • bluesky84 has a link at the near top of this post that worked for me

  • Is there a minimum purchase amount?

Ie can I purchase a $1 mars bar and get the bag

    • As far as I could see it didn't say there was on the email I received.

  • Got this, thanks for the post OP!

  • +3

So do we just scan one of the bags and the rewards card to get this for free?

    • +3

Yeah, that's how it should work

    • +1

      Or add to cart online

  • +12

Funny how we get excited about getting a 99c bag for free.

    • It happens when you become an adult LOL

    • +1

No min spend, just bought a bottle of water and redeemed the offer.

  • Thanks OP!

  • Logged to my rewards, js for me.

  • -5

Got the email, I never go to Woolworths…I go to coles. So Targeted to people that rarely go to Woolworths.

    • Always. It's a DISloyalty scheme. Just rotate multiple cards.

    • Ive spent about 100 a week at woolies over a past few months and still got it. Seems random to me.

      • I got it on 4 cards out of 9.

  • Got the offer.

I'm really done using the 15c bag as it gets ripped so easily and it's very hard to clean. Been buying these green bags anyway so it's a good offer to have.

    • +1

I'm really done using the 15c bag as it gets ripped so easily

Just ask them to repair, replace or refund.

They are promoting them as reusable so they have obligations under the Australian Consumer Guarantee…

      • +1

That’s a great idea. Will do that. I did it once with my green bag and the guy rolled his eyes at me but I insisted I wanted a new bag.
